Service rant
OK, not being a native speaker I am poor at rants How can it be fair that you have to pay regularly for overpriced servicing to a watch that was very expensive in the first place. Say, you buy a watch water proof to 300 meters, but if you don't change the 1$ rubber parts every 4 years, for like 200$ you can't trust taking a shower with it, and it's all YOUR fault It is a bit ironic, because I bought a high quality watch with some idea of it lasting for generations. Do I really own a watch or if I am an indentured servant to Omega? Am I the first one to get that thought?
Decisions: 15202, 5146r, Aquanaut, Datograph, Chrono Bleu
Alright gents...I'm hoping I can get some of your guidance as I'm having a hard time deciding on my next move. There are so many watches on my want list but only so much cash to go around (around $60k). I've narrowed it down to 3 choices:1. 5146R and Chronometre Bleu2. 15202, Aquanaut, and Chrono Bleu3. Lange Datograph up/down in rose gold Currently I have a DSSD blue, BLNR, Sub Date, and AP Diver. What direction would you take? Thanks
I need inspiration! Please help me dear friends!
I have gone a bit quiet with incomings recently, I am looking for ideas for my next PP and am lacking inspiration. A couple of limitations however:1. It must be 40mm at least.2. I don't like Aquanaut or Nautilus models (I may change the latter view when I see the 5990 in the flesh).3. No yellow gold.4. It should be a model that will hold its value reasonably well.5. I am not VIP status with Patek, so can't get specials easily.6. 5270/5970/5960/5235/5100/5070 are off the list.If I don't get some inspiration, I may need to turn to the dark side (aka AP or RM).Thank you in advance,R
Advice on a 5396
I have been considering a 5146G for some time and then happened to try on a 5396G while visiting NY last month. I am thinking now, that is the watch for me (looking for a long term PP...not something to flip in a year or two). Really caught my eye as sleek and a modern classic piece. Also liked the white face over the cream face on the 5146.The 5396 to my eye seems more business or formal (but hoping I can dress it down a bit with maybe a mat strap) vs the 5146. Not looking for an everyday piece but also dont want it to be too limiting. Any thoughts on this?I think the 5146 is and will always be seen as a classic. Question is what about the 5396? Crystal balls out please! I know its person choice but does the PP community here think the 5396 a long term keeper or will it fade off as a miss in a few more years time? Or should I just stick with the more tried and true 5146?Thanks in advance for any advice or commentary. Borrowed a few pics just for reference.
Next on the list with the AD - Buy the 126600?
AD just called and I'm next on the list the SD43. Most likely buying as an investment piece and don't want to unseat my SubC. Worth the speculation to be an investment piece, or just pass and don't deal with the hassle and risk of selling down the road. Thoughts??
