Accuracy: What Is It, And Does Anyone Actually Care?
Accuracy: its pursuit is the reason watchmaking exists at all, and yet, it's easier to get an argument about date windows started than a discussion about accuracy. Take away watches as everything else that they are – expressions of personal taste or style; collectible rarities; objects of decorative ornamentation; amusing pieces of mechanical ingenuity – and what you have is a machine designed to keep time accurately. What accuracy actually is, however, is not as straightforward as you might think, and with atomic-clock accurate time available just about everywhere, it's useful – if mechanical horology is something that interests you – to look at this single most essential, yet surprisingly little-discussed, feature of watchmaking. 1 OF 6 Accuracy for most of us means one thing: whether or not a watch keeps the same time as whatever we use as a time standard. Omega Speedmaster vs. Special Editions
I just purchased the basic Speedmaster, 42mm, hesalite, manual wind, leather strap for 3,145.00. I sure like the looks of the special editions, Dark Side of the Moon, etc., etc. do you guys think that they are worth the money as they are priced around 7,500.0, over twice the price of the standard version. Are you paying for the marketing hype or are these a much better built watch than the standard versions? How about resale value?
WW1 Omega
Hello all,As a newbie I love all the knowledge that these forums provide.I have had this watch for several years and know little about it. It was purchased on a whim and I am thinking of selling it etc. The main spring has finally given out ,but prior, for last 4 years it was in my rotation and kept very good time. Would anyone have an idea as to its history and actual sale value? I don't want to list it at an unreasonable price. I don't seek profit, just fair market value. Many thanks.
not often ...
not often will you see 2 of these together :-)
