Seiko Donates Spring Drive Spacewalk Sale Proceeds to Charities
On September 17, 2009, the Seiko Spring Drive Spacewalk watch that was taken into space by Richard Garriott was auctioned at Antiquorum’s New York sale. The sale generated lively bidding, and the selling price exceeded both the reserve and the pre-sale estimate. Seiko has now donated the sale proceeds to the two charities that Richard Garriott supports, the Nature Conservancy and the Challenger Center for Space Science Education. In early 2010, Seiko will release a 100 piece commemorative edition of the Spacewalk. Richard Garriott's intention has always been that the watch that Seiko created for his space adventure would be made available to a wider public as a way of promoting space travel and the furtherance of space science. This Limited Edition commemorative watch turns this ambition to reality.Below, the Spring Drive Spacewalk sold at the Antiquorum sale
AP Diver... in it's element!
After reading so many of those is it safe to... regarding our watches, I wanted to know, is is safe to dive a shipwreck with a Diver?dive1.jpgdive2.jpgdive3.jpgChecking the elapsed time...dive4.jpgdive5.jpgThe answer is a resounding YES, and it is SPECTACULAR! dive6.jpgHere after the dive with my son in Cancun, Mexico. I'm wearing my AP Diver and he is wearing his (formerly mine) Marathon.Cheers!
Look what's arrived...
I've always fancied a Hercules and recently this one's come into my possession. Quite an impressive watch I must say. Really solid feel and, I hope you agree, a beautiful white dial (apologies for the iPad photo). I don't think many were made and, at the time, I think these were Breitlings biggest model coming in at 45.5mm diameter. I'm not that familiar with chronos and I'd be grateful if anyone could explain the lower middle sub dial which, unusually, has what looks like a minute hand and an hour hand. Also, when the re-set button is pushed the left subdial (24hr?) doesn't seem to zero, I wonder if it is supposed to. The main hand set consists of the usual second, minute and hours hand but there's a fourth hand with a small red arrow that seems to track the minute hand but I'm not sure of it's function. Any enlightenment will be much appreciated.
Planet Ocean 8900 owners out there...
What does it sound and feel like when manual winding the crown in position 1, once you have unscrewed it from the locked position? Even from a complete stop, well before it has been overwound, I hear faint clicks with intermingled with this high-pitched buzzing noise. When I used to have a manual wind speedy pro, I could hear and feel a very regular yet smooth clicking sound, until it came to a full stop. However, on my PO it's a very faint clicking with this weird buzzing. Again, even on the first few winds from a full stop all the way up till I wind it like 50 times. Somehow I still ha ent heard that click of the over-wind protective clutch. Any thoughts on why this is and what it is?? And what does your 8900 sound like??Thanks in advance!!
