My First Patek (5712)
I picked up my highly anticipated 5712 this week and what an experience. I couldn't be more thrilled with the look and feel of it. It took a year and a half for the call, but it was worth it. The sales experience at the Patek salon was beyond perfect, and I was treated to champagne and an overall purchase encounter befitting of the brand. I was also gifted a patek tie, a travel case, a free service, and a pair of patek gloves. Now back to the watch. It's definitely much lighter and more fragile feeling than I'm accustomed to wearing. But then again I've had one model of Rolex or another on my wrist 99% of the time. It goes without saying that the watch is stunning. The bracelet is among the most comfortable I've ever worn, and the dial changes color depending on the lighting, which is sublime. I'll have more to say after I've had a few weeks worth of wear. But for now I will sit back and continue to stare at the dial. What a beauty. Sent from my SM-N920W8 using Tapatalk
Antiques Roadshow Tiffany Dialed Original Pepsi GMT
Sorry for lousy pictures - shot it off my TV while watching the show just now. Season22/Episode9. Saw this and thought the story was unbelievable. Guy takes this off his wrist at the show - gifted by his uncle in 1975 - over 40 years ago. Guy never knew about Rolex but wore it almost daily since then. His wrist gives good evidence...2 years ago the Rolex dealer told him if he serviced it, they would replace the dial So he went to an indy for service. It is from 1963-64 per s/n - early gilt underline dial per the appraiser, Peter Planes, from Royce Estate Buyers in Palm Beach, FL. Would be worth $10-12K if he had it serviced by Rolex with replaced dial and bezel insert. But in this current untouched original condition, worth $50K retail as long as he doesn't touch it. And if the dial had not oxidized so much and was perfect it would have fetched upwards of $100K Good Grief said the guy. I think the indy watchmaker may have replaced the date wheel because it is so white. Just sharing
An Icoming. 14 Watches update 27 years update.
Well.My wife wasn't into watches much. Yet she loved the 14 watches 27 years post, we would sit on the sofa and love reading it.The day she died I had just picked up my grail watch. And that's a special time piece. Then I picked up a Speedmaster. Love it. I'm done then I thought. Yet, when I was saving up for the grail watch, my AD showed me a watch. I passed on it, as I was saving for the Grail. Now, I've seen one on Chrono 24. I'd have ordered it! Mega nervous as I've not bought like this before. So an incoming is on the way. Watches are just material possessions. But are they? For me, they have started to give a reason to fight back the darkness. They tell the story of our lives. They keep the time of our lives. And when the darkness envelopes us, they keep ticking. As life does. And, when we go, they carry on.So, soon it will be 14 watches again. But a few more years on. My wife will be so mad again! But it's meant to 14 watches. The years we were married.Thank you all.
