Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends September 25, 2015
Although Vacheron Constantin recently unveiled their new and absolutely mega pocket watch - the Reference 57260 - we are kickstarting this round-up with a different pocket watch, one that is, in my mind, just as important, if not more. I'm talking about the Breguet 1160 Marie Antoinette pocket watch. This watch is significant because it was built as a replica of the original Breguet 160 pocket watch. It may not have the most complications, but it was constructed using just written descriptions and drawings of the original watch. It was a true labor of love and shows just how much the late Nicholas G. Hayek favored the brand Breguet.Moving on, we take a look at three high-end handwound chronographs from three of the most esteemed brands in the business - A. Lange & S?hne, Patek Philippe and Vacheron Constantin. And speaking of high-end watches, we also take an in-depth look at a very special tourbillon from Haldimann, the H1 Flying Central Tourbillon. We wrap up this round-up by chec
Formex 4Speed AS 6500 GMT: Race Watch For The Sky
Formex is one of those great watch companies that makes watches you are happy exist in the world, even if you don't want one. Anyone can graciously appreciate the design of these relatively reasonably priced watches that embody a unique stylized blend of form and strength. We are glad that companies exist out there to create such wildly niche products that are sometimes over-the-top, but appreciable at least in a "that's so cool" type of way. As though a passionate watch maker decided the world needed such watches, as opposed to a committee of business people deliberating market demand and cost efficient concerns.Formex makes "racing inspired swiss watches" that each have the "4Speed" name attached to it. To be honest, it is unclear to me why the 4Speed name is part of each watch, especially since there are no modern 4Speed racing cars. Formex watches have a decidedly modern appeal in their racing instrument inspired design themes. The idea is that not all of their watches are meant fo
Fun at the AP Boutique
Grand complication...1 of 1??Was told this piece is 1 of 1, but not found anything about it online...notice the red number 1 in the lower-left sub-dail...anyone with deep AP knowledge able to provide additional detail. The sales staff was helpful, but not overly knowledgeable about the piece - store manager was out so I couldn't ask.
Thoughts on the speedmaster mark 2 and 4
Hi guysLooking to pick up a nice vintage piece, either a speedmaster 2 or 4. Now I know they don't have the iconic status of the original but I quite like the retro look seventies look (basically I'm a sucker for seventies omega sports watches :-) ) What's do you guys thinkMark 2Mark 4Alternatively I might be able to get hold of a chrono-quartz, tryed one of these on recently and it was awesome, big and surprisingly solid for a seventies watch (my missus hated it but sure she will come around to liking it...actually pro ably not), but it's a quartz from the seventies, not sure about how much longer it will last!! Quite a layout for a watch that might last a month !
I think Im bored with my Ceramic Sub
Long time reader... first time posting. I recently purchase the 116610LN new from a AD near my house. I walked in and walked out a new Rolex owner. I love this watch but it's kind of boring. I don't regret my purchase, but I do have a problem with rushing into major purchases. For me buying a Rolex has always been a dream of mine. I think with a little bit more reasearch (and some patience) I would've went with the Batman or the Hulk (if I could've got one... smh) Now I'm thinking about trying to pick up a Hulk or a Batman. With all the hype surronding the Pepsi, I'm thinking I might be able to creep up the waitlist and pick one of these up at my AD. I am even considering selling my sub to fund one of these watches. I'm just not sure if it will satisfied that itch....I think it might be safe to say I have the Rolex bug....
