Hands-On: With the A. Lange & S?hne Richard Lange Tourbillon "Pour le Mrite" (VIDEO)
One of the coolest tourbillons we saw at SIHH in January was A. Lange & Sohne's Richard Lange Tourbillon "Pour le Merite."? This is the watch, designed after a 19th century pocketwatch (pictured below), that has a dial that is only fully visible during half of the day.? The point of the disappearing dial? Simple, really. The folks at ALS just want the wearer of this Pour le Merite to be able to view the fantastic tourbillon that he or she is paying for.The Richard Lange Tourbillon is a regulator, with the minutes being displayed on the top dial while hours on bottom right, seconds via the tourbillon at bottom left. During the hours of 12-6, half of the hour dial is missing to display the full tourbillon.? Once the watch hits 6, the dial pops back into place and a full circle is displayed again.? As this is a "poure le merite" watch, it is driven by a fuse and chain transmission to ensure regular power delivery while the watch is being wound and as it works through its power reserve. On
Cal 3120 Reliability?
I'm looking to get another watch within the next year or two and I know it will either be another Rolex or an AP. I would love to have a 15450 but the only thing stopping me are some of the issues I've heard concerning the 3120 movement, mostly with the date setting or the crown breaking off. Are there any issues I should know about or are these just isolated incidents?
I'm back with a large size PO!
It's been a while since I've had an Omega, I've been distracted with Panerai as my exclusive non Rolex watch for a while now. Today I pulled the trigger on a large size PO. Yes I have small wrists, its just that I got too good of a deal on this! I had doubts at first since I previously barely pulled off a 45mm PO and this if I'm not mistaken is bigger. I put it on and loved it, Omega screams quality!
Seamaster Workhorse.........
My Father bought a Seamaster in the early 60's and wore it for everything. He was an engineer, mechanic, garage tinkerer, and horsman.. After a couple decades of hard use, he gave it to me, and I put another couple of decades of hard use on it as my beater watch. It was the garage, yardwork, fool-around watch until I lost the stem several years back. This is how it looked about 6 months ago: I sent it off with instructions to just give the case, dial, and hands a good cleaning; and overhaul the movement as necessary. This is how it looks today:A new stem, crown, and cleaned up dial and hands:The fresh Omega crystal is a joy to look through:The case has been cleaned up, but no polishing or removal of the already well worn 14k Gold:A new Omega Calf Leather strap and gold buckle:The 560 movement was completely disassembled, worn parts replaced and fresh oil:(file photo)The date change started at about 10:30, and changed completely by 12:15:I think it's earned a rest, at least from heavy
Dual Incoming - Advice Requested!
TL;DR - Bought my fiancee a DJ36 (116234, MOP) and myself a 116613LB. I had to order the DJ36, so they're holding my bluesy in the safe until hers arrives as it is a gift for her. Need advice on how to gift it to her!Long Story...About 6 weeks ago I got the itch to celebrate a milestone in my career and bought a DJ41. At the time I was debating between a DJ41, Sub-Date, and Bluesy. I went with the DJ41 because I already owned a Breitling sports model and felt the DJ41 would be great for everyday where and dressing up. It does...perfectly, but that's where the problem began....I started to get the watch itch and spent way too much time on these forums. :) I knew that Bluesy was still calling my name and that I wanted her to have something nice as well - if anything to save my own butt! My fiancee and I are getting married in June and plan to start a family soon after so the idea of spending tens of thousands of dollars on watches seemed like something I better get out of the way soone
