30yr Service Award
Last month I achieved 30 years with the company. They give a decent expense allowance for this milestone and, of course, I started looking for a new watch. The Expl II I received at my 25 year anniversary was the start of my collection. For the next several watches, I tried to choose an eclectic mix of function, dial colors, case materials and bracelet/straps. As a diver, I figured an all black dive watch with rubber or canvas strap would be right addition. I looked at several brands from Blancpain to Tag Heuer. It was difficult to find a watch that was in my price range and really appealed to me.Finally stumbled on the Breitling SuperOcean II Special. With the brush finished DLC coated case, ceramic bezel, 24 hours dial numbers, large luminescent hands and hour markers, and deep depth rating, it has the look and solid feel of a serious tool watch. The 44mm dia case fits well on my large wrists. The Ocean racer II strap is very comfortable even though the buckle ends up offset
Seamaster: Aqua Terra
Because there has been quite some show of Aqua Terras recently, it makes me want it more and more and more...There was a chance where I could get one earlier in the month, but I passed on it because it was a quartz. No harm there, but I don't think the asking price is justifiable, so I passed on it.Until last week, an AD-friend told me that one of his regulars wants to trade-back an AT he sold him some time ago, around last year or so - and asked me if I was interested in seeing it. I said sure - why not, I always wanted an AT in my collection anyway, and this one is said to be in great condition. I had my reservations, so I told him Let me know when you get it.So a few days back, he did get it, and I came over to see the watch. The watch turns out to be in great condition as stated - not so good on the leather band though, so the picture here is with my own croco strap. It also unfortunately came without a bracelet... I had a bit of a doubt regarding that, so if I make the purchase - m
UK Dry spell of Batman's
It's become almost impossible to get a BLNR in the UK now from an AD.However i know of somewhere which are willing to take a deposit..Is that a good thing? Should i jump at the chance of putting down a deposit, does this mean i jump the line? and show that i am serious(have i answered my own question)
SD4K Phasing Out?
I purchased an SD4K a few weeks back and was at my local AD again today. I noticed in the glass where the SD4K used to sit was still empty, so I asked if they had ordered another to take its place. The AD stated that Rolex said they are not sending out any more SD4K's till April (after Baselworld?) and that they are hard to find. He then mentioned that the SD4K 116600 is on its way to being a collectors item. Is this a possible hint at Rolex phasing out the 116600? Possibly fixing the lugs or coming out with a new model? Anyone else hear of this?
