Eterna KonTiki Date 2009 Watch
While there have been a few new releases from Eterna this year, the company has been relatively quiet. I did happen to notice this fine new release based on their re-issue of the classic KonTiki model. There have actually been a great deal of KonTiki watches over the years, but the versions with the four triangles are the purest in form. The recently re-released the KonTiki had a centralized date dial with an indicator hand, this new model has an internal date disc with a covertly placed date window between 4 and 5 o'clock. I must admit that it does improve the look of the watch as the date window is functional, but not obtrusive. It further allows for greater appreciation of the dial and basic theme of the watch. The watch was designed as a sport watch back in the 1950s (I believe). Funny how what was informal then, almost looks formal now. Though the black and orange faced version is still quite sporty looking and certainly has the best personality of the two in my opinion. Really
Introducing: The Montblanc 1858 Collection
Montblanc has released four new watches as a part of their new Montblanc 1858 Collection: a single-button chronograph in pink gold, and and three versions of a stainless-steel watch with subsidiary seconds. The collection references the heritage of Minerva, which was originally founded in 1858 and purchased by Montblanc in 2006. The Montblanc 1858 Chronograph Tachymeter (112637) 1 OF 5 2 OF 5 The first watch in the 1858 Collection is the pink-gold, single-button Chronograph Tachymeter made in a limited series of 100 pieces. Inspired by the chronographs made in the 1930s, this watch features a classic but modern 44 mm pink-gold case with rounded bezel. The single-button chronograph is activated by pushing the winding crown. The large black dial, which is also vintage-inspired, features luminous Arabic numerals with tachymeter scale, and cathedral hands. How does is GMT look to you?
Had met a gentlemen selling this yesterday and it appeared that the thing was genuine however the date refused to change so I'm thinking there was something wrong with the 1128 movement. The time was set to safe date change hours (not between 8pm and 2am) but using the hour hand jumping it simply would not change the date to the 6th. Then I tried the the long way with the 24h hand going all the way around past 12 multiple times. Afterwards I checked photos from the listing and the date was still at the 5th so it hasn't changed since he listed for sale. The serial engraving looked a little shallow but the dial and other details looked perfect. How does it look to you?
Omega service repair experience
Just wanted to share some of my experience. My wife has a fairly new Aqua Terra with the new 8520 movement. Its very rarely worn. The winding mechanism seemed to fail whereby manual winding would catch on the rotor making it difficult to wind. I guess it shouldn't.Anyway, we gave it to the Omega boutique here in Hong Kong. It went through a local check with the watch master in Hong Kong, and then later it went to headquarters for a full repair. The whole time we did not receive a telephone call to update us of the status until it was ready for pickup. It took a full two months. When we picked up the watch, the sales gave very little input as to what was wrong or what was done to the watch. There was a little report, which I asked to keep but was not allowed to. It showed that the gasket was replaced, but surprisingly much of the comments were written in Chinese - so I wonder if this was the master report from Switzerland. Being COSC certified, it kind of irks me a little knowing
The 20k USD GMT II
Hi allGiven the current state of things with those impossible waiting lists and growing frustration from buyers it still amazes me that Rolex wont increase the price of the GMT massively to curb demand. Cant offer any detailed sensitivity study on it but id say 20k USD for the new Pepsi and they'd still be able to sell them all while not making it insanely hard and annoying to procure. What do you think? Would a pricelist of 20k put you off from buying a Pepsi?
