The Art Of Selling Luxury Watches To That Rich Wealthy Crowd; Five Tricks Of The Trade!
Spending an inordinate amount of time looking through watch catalogs and marketing materials, I've noticed a lot of noteworthy trends. It seems as though someone, somewhere, has come up with a few rules regarding how to advertise really expensive items to the people that can afford them. Honestly, it is quite humorous much of the time, and from my perspective a lot of the time they are going about it wrong. At the very least, there is certainly room for innovation and improvement, especially if I where doing the buying. Lets take a look at some of the "time-tested" methods you tend to see.1. Walk On Tip ToesCareful now. Rich people don't like to be offended and are overly sensitive. Can't take chances with their feeling or delicate notions of sensibility. As such, all advertising materials have to be highly copacetic with no opportunity to any type of offensive remarks. As such, any advertisements need to be extremely conservative. Not too much excitement or anything too interesting bec
Introducing: The Moritz Grossman Atum Pure Steel (Live Pics, Pricing Info)
Stainless steel. You could not summarize Baselworld 2016 any more succinctly. And there's no mystery why it's being so commonly used this year. High-end watchmakers are lowering price points in order to encourage watch enthusiasts to continue spending despite decelerating economies in their most important markets. But taking an existing model and encasing it in stainless steel won't do. The transition to more affordable metals requires sensible changes to some of the less obvious features of a watch, a rule that Moritz Grossmann followed brilliantly this week with the introduction of the Atum Pure Steel. 1 OF 4 A gorgeous dress watch with an hours, minutes, and small seconds display, the Atum was previously offered only in precious metals, in rose gold for $36,100 and in white gold for $37,600. It's now available for the third of the price, at $11,500. Now, that's the kind of jump that makes you wonder how much of the good stuff has been chucked out of the original model?
Breguet Clock With Docking Pocket Watch Re-Sets Record For A Clock At Auction, Fetching $6.8 Million
Yesterday Sotheby's New York held its Important Watches and Clocks sale at their Upper East Side headquarters. The highlight of the day was undoubtedly the record-setting sale of the Duc D'Orlans Breguet Sympathique clock from 1835, a stunning clock with a docking pocket watch - yes, a docking pocket watch.Just looking at the Duc D'Orlans, you can tell you're staring at something impressive. The case is decorated with beautiful ormolu-mounted red tortoise shell, it stands at nearly two feet tall, and the amount of gold sculpture is staggering. But it's the little repeating watch perched on top that really makes the Duc D'Orlans special.?Abraham-Louis Breguet wanted to tackle the problem of watch winding, and this is one of his finest achievements in the arena. While in exile in Switzerland during the French Revolution, Breguet conceived of the Sympathique system. At the bottom of the pocket watch are three tiny holes. When docked in the gold cradle atop the parent clock, these holes

Patek vs A Lange & Sohne
It wasn't until recently, less than 2 months that I got interested in Patek, so much that I ordered 1 week ago a 5712, and I have been looking since a few days into ALS, for curiosity purposes.I find many of their pieces quite fascinating, especially some which one could expect at much higher price levels are relatively well priced for the renowned quality of this brand, for example the Langematik perpetual calendar, or the Lange 1 time zone.I like that many of their models are hand wound, I love automatic watches but hand wound pieces give you a deeper relation with the watch IMO.From what I read on TRF most Patek fans put PP and ALS either on the same level of quality and craftsmanship or PP first but ALS in second.I never saw one in real but on photos they do seem to have a superior level of quality, the finish on them seems impeccable.Unfortunately even if I find them very beautiful and not too expensive for some interesting models, they are too much in the dress watch section for
