Regatta Time: 5 Yachting Watches
British watch manufacturer Bremont made news last year as the new official timing partner and other brands sponsoring teams. In addition to sponsorships, some brands have developed timepieces specifically suited for competitive sailing and other nautical activities, often with some version of the all-important regatta countdown function. Here we run down five yachting and regatta watches and reveal why they’re ideal companions out on the waves.Corum has been making watches for yachtsmen since 1960, when it debuted the first Corum Admiral’s Cup watch, named after and inspired by the famous yacht race of the same name. The Admiral’s Cup has since grown to become an entire collection, one of Corum’s core pillars. Numerous variations on the Corum Admiral’s Cup have been introduced over the years, including, at Baselworld 2014, the Corum Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Tides. This watch’s movement, Caliber CO 277 which Corum spent three years working with
Last Chance To Enter For Free Swatch Automatic Chrono Watch Giveaway
The holidays are more or less over, the gifts have been given - perhaps a few left dangling "in the mail" somewhere - but few surprises are left. Did you get the watch that you wanted? Did you even ask for it? My philosophy is that unless someone knows exactly what you want (and where to get it), watch lovers should not be given gifts by non watch lovers. You know how it goes. "The sales person at Macy's said you'd love it..." (cringe).Well you can still be surprised and get a change to win this lovely new Swatch Automatic Chrono "Simply Pure" model watch. I have it here just eager to get on someone's wrist. It is so lonely sitting in it's chic box. I did a review of a different Swatch Automatic Chrono watch, the "Silver Class" here - that is part of the same new collection of timepieces. Remember that is has a new ETA automatic mechanical chronograph movement inside of it. Retail price is $370. The drawing ends on December 31, 2009. Go out with a bang for the decade. Trying to make some decisions
I am selling my Rolex 14060 Sub to acquire a Planet Ocean 2500 in orange. With the cash left over, which model should I go for: 2254.5 or the classic Bond in blue wave? I had the 2264.5 and sold it to acquire my Sub. I would have kept it if it was the auto model. I have always loved the blue but never been crazy about the font of the numbers on the bezel. That said, I like both watches but think that the bezel rings are pretty useless without some sort of a coin edge. I am going back to an all Omega watch collection and would appreciate any input you may have to offer. Thanks form looking.
I'm an April Fool: 5712G or 5164
Hi allFirst off thank you so much to all forum members for the advice provided to me in deciding between a 5164 and 5712. My AD notified me a week or so ago that a 5712G was incoming and had my name on it! At this point I was still deciding between that and a 5164. Was leaning towards the 5164 but who could give up an opportunity to see a 5712G in the flesh.Fast forward to yesterday and there was the 5712G right there in front of me... nice piece but I just couldn't do it! The 5164 had me and I told my AD that I'd have to pass and wait for a 5164. He then disappears and low and behold he appears with the 5164! You should have seen the smile on my face!!!Wonderful surprise and of course I pulled the trigger! Lovely piece... so light and comfortable
Calatrava - Robust Enough For Everyday Use?
Hello,I'm looking to get back into a Patek after a ten year absence. I once had a beautiful 60's Calatrava that I loved but it had seen some humidity over the years and it needed some significant work which was beyond my budget so I regretfully sold it. I now find myself in a position to once again consider getting another Patek and I am trying to decide which model to pursue. I originally was thinking about an Aquanaut but I keep seeing Calatravas that I really like. I am wondering if a more modern Calatrava would be robust enough to wear daily. I do walk to work and I have a seven year old son so sweat and the odd knock are going to happen. I currently wear a 70's Rolex Datejust most days and as much as I like it I would expect that if I bought another Patek I would want to wear it almost everyday.Do you guys think that a Calatrava would be up to the job?
