Review: Techn Sparrowhawk II
The Techn Sparrowhawk II stands out in the inexpensive chronograph market. It is a well-executed aviator with sharp styling, great build quality and the added perk of an interesting movement at its heart. At $269 one does not usually expect something unique, but Techn manages to pull it off. The aviator market is fairly saturated, with offerings from brands across the price spectrum, from Timex to Steinhart to Bell & Ross. It's a look that does not change very much from brand to brand, but the Sparrowhawk II achieves something refined, that is clearly an aviator, yet not derivative. ?Combine this with the Meca-Quartz chronograph within and you can begin to see how the Sparrowhawk II is more that just an affordable watch, it's genuinely innovative.Case: PVD Coated 316L Surgical Stainless SteelMovement: Seiko VK63 Meca-Quartz ChronographDial: Black w/ Off-White indexesLens: Mineral w/ AR coatingCase Back: ScrewdownStrap: Khaki CanvasWater Res.: 100mDimensions: 41.5mmThickness: 11.7
Bring a Loupe: Some Quick Thoughts On The Collectibilty of (Special) F.P. Journe Watches, As Demonstrated By Last Week's Auction Results
F.P. Journe is one of the few modern watch manufactures that many serious collectors have any love for. Their watches are thoughtful, beautiful, wearable, and rare. Don't believe me, read this. That said, Journe watches have never exactly been auction house darlings – with modern pieces typically selling for a fraction of their current retail prices. That, of course, is no way to measure the success of a watch, but resale value is something that many collectors simply can't ignore – if you put money into something, you want to know you can get money out of it. This week, however, a few F.P. Journe pieces sold at auction well above what one might expect, and we are beginning to see that like special pieces from Lange, special Journe watches can also do quite well on the public market. A Unique Tourbillon Souverain Sells For 650,000 CHF 1 OF 7 The first watch we will examine sold Tuesday night in a charity auction benefiting Action Innocence. This
Help with this RO
Hi,My friend was offered this watch and has asked for my help regarding the decision to purchase. My knowledge of AP is rather limited, therefor I come to the experts!Any help is much appreciated:Model?Movement?Etc?Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ridiculous First World Concern - Please Enable Me!
I love my RO (15400). I wear it most days, and dress fairly casually generally (jeans and t-shirt or jeans and long sleeved shirt with casual jacket usually). I have a nagging concern which is getting naggier (!) - I'm not an extrovert, loud or attention seeking character at all, and I wonder if the watch is slightly too blingy for me for every day wear. Despite being mostly brushed, the design of course means that it catches the light and sparkles very obviously. I like this personally, but don't want to be seen as showing off!Silly right? Why should I care what other people think? Plus I have no real evidence that the watch is seen as such anyway ... nobody has ever commented on it (which is how I like it), but I just wonder what they're thinking!I'd love to hear your thoughts!
Nacre.....in all its glory. Post your MOP dials pics here!
No two dials are alike.
