New Book Traces Audemars Piguet History
Founded in 1875 in Le Brassus by watchmakers Jules Louis Audemars and Edward Auguste Piguet, today the Manufacture Audemars Piguet employs almost 1,000 people in Switzerland and around the world. This new book illustrates the Audemars Piguet passion for fine watchmaking, cultivated for 136 years. Audemars Piguet began in a workshop in a family home in a small town in the Jura. Finding its way through the political and economic upheavals of the 20th century, the brand has succeeded in perpetuating the values of its founders while combining high-tech procedures with the patient work of its artisans. The new Audemars Piguet book relates the story of the firm since its founding through richly illustrated chronological sequences. With a look inspired by the 1940s and 1950s and featuring a circular rule for pilots, the Montbrillant chronograph was named after construction on the rue de Montbrillant, on the heights of La Chaux-de-Fonds, which housed workshops of Breitling from 1892 to 1979. It is in these places that the brand developed inventions and improvements that have been changing the face of the wrist Chronograph, including the first pushpiece independent (1915), the second independent pushpiece (1934) and the first to winding automatic chronograph (1969). I joined the club!
