Watch What-If: Luxury Swiss Star Wars Watches
Star Wars fever is back this year, as later in 2015, the popular science fiction movie franchise sees its seventh film with Star Wars: The Force Awakens. We recently learned that Nixon from California will be producing some exclusive Star Wars watches, and it is no secret that many modern, avant-garde luxury watches were inspired by story universes such as Star Wars and Star Trek. To that end, we wanted to see what it might be like to have Star Wars watches produced by some of the more popular and "mainstream" luxury Swiss watch makers - which is the subject of this installment of "Watch What-If."Once again, the art and concepts are by Niklas Bergenstjerna - who worked with us to create these five fantasy Star Wars watches by Swiss watch brands you know. The idea is that the characters who inspired these watches might very likely actually wear them (if either were to exist). I hope that these fit into the almost religious "Star Wars canon." Here are words directly from Mr. Bergenstjern
Bell & Ross BR01-96 And BR01-97 Limited Edition Commando Watches
More with the gray watches it seems. I've been writing about this trend pretty extensively on Luxistwatches-dealer, but it has finally come to Bell & Ross. Actually I knew this since Baselworld back in March, but only now it connected with me that this is all part of the gray watch conspiracy - and watch companies are always bitching about the gray market. Irony? These two new pretty watches are part of a limited edition of just 500 pieces each and are part of the Commando watches that Bell & Ross will offer. Commando meaning gray in this instance. Maybe this is the perfect urban combat camouflage watch? We are familiar with the models as well. These are the big date and power reserve versions of the Bell & Ross BR01, or rather the BR01-96, and the BR01-97. The dials also make it clear that the watches are part of a limited edition. The Big Date has an automatic ETA 2896, while the power reserve model has an ETA 2897.The black on the hands and indexes contrast well with the
Talking Watches: With Jason Singer
Over my time in watches, I have been lucky enough to become acquainted with some truly great scholars and collectors. The greatest scholars – the folks that lead our study and interpretation of collectible watches – are often quiet, reserved people who do what they do because they love and want to understand watches for everyone, not for show or ego. The man you are about to meet has been collecting watches for 32 years, he is an American, and until recently, very few outside his closest circle of friends (think Aurel Bacs and John Goldberger) knew his name. He has been quietly amassing a truly world-class collection that will absolutely leave you in shock and awe – he collects only the rarest and only the absolute finest quality. This, our 15th episode, is your official HODINKEE Talking Watches with Jason Singer. 1 OF 46 1930s Rolex Bubbleback 'First Series' 2 OF 46 Singer has a world-class selection of Rolex Bubblebacks – no
back to Omega... Ti Speedy
I had some Omegas before. Last Omega I had was PO 8500 that I traded a year ago.. Here I am.. back to Omega. I chose Ti Speedy this time because steel speedy didn't last too long for me.. a bit too heavy with metal bracelet.. I love the subtle blue dial... and balanced weight around my wrist. Leather strap feels pretty high end.. 9300 movement is spot on when I wear it. only a second off for a few days when you put it in winder. Definitely one of the most accurate movements that I've owned. I am glad I did.
Which SpeedMaster?
Hi Folks,I'm considering buying a Speedy (I think every collection needs one). The question is, which is regarded as the best - Speedmaster Pro (manual wind) or the new Coaxial?I'm a big fan of the coaxial escapement and can appreciate an automatic wind but something in my head says that the only authentic speedy is the manual wind???Which do you guys consider as THE Speedmaster?Edit: please post pics if you've got 'em.
