Watches NEWS
BEST FROM: watches-dealer & Friends April 26th
?Round up by Kenny YeoIn the second edition of our bi-weekly news roundup, we check out the new MB&F HM3 Megawind, explore the science behind black watches, learn about an indestructible Omega watch, and check out previews of two watches that will debut at Basel World 2013.Do note that at the time of writing, I haven't had the chance to include some of the early previews of other noteworthy watches from Basel World 2013. Rest assured that in my next round-up I will be featuring some of my favorite watches from the show.1. Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean GoodPlanet GMT WatchFans of Omega's Seamaster Planet Ocean watches rejoice, for Omega has just debuted the Planet Ocean GoodPlanet GMT. The watch comes in a 43.5mm case and will use Omega's caliber 8605, which also sees action in the Aqua Terra GMT. Although technically not the Planet Ocean GMT, this special version, which was launched in conjunction with the Planet Ocean movie, is a good indication of what the regular Planet Ocean G
Glycine Incursore Black Jack Small Seconds: Great Looking Watch, Missed The Cards Playing Reference
I can always count on Glycine to present respectable looking watches. With a long history of pilot's watches, and some great diving watches (the Lagunare line), there is always an inherent "active" look to their watches. On top of that, Glycine is good about releasing new watches with regularity and this Basel World is no different. My choice from their new selection is the Glycine Incursore Black Jack Small Seconds. The Incursore line of watches all share similar faces and numbering. With a look a lot like Panerai, Glycine is not presenting a copy but its own interpretation of the theme. Glycine is a Swiss watch maker, not Italian like Panerai, but the name "Incursore" is Italian and comes from the military "Frogmen" that engaged frequently during World War II. Panerai watches were originally designed for the same purposes. That being high legibility in dark and wet conditions while being stealthy and solid. That is the purpose behind the large, well-spaced numerals and hour indicators
Introducing: The Cartier Drive, A New Men's Watch With An Eye To The Past (Details, Official Pricing & Availability)
This could be the Cartier many of us have been waiting for. In fact, earlier today, when CNN asked each HODINKEE team member to pick one watch that they really liked from the day's presentations, it was the new-shape men's watch from Cartier – the Drive – that I chose. Why? Because I've been dying to find a modern day men's Cartier that fits me, and my taste. The Calibre Chronograph was a step in the right direction, the Calibre Diver even more so, but they were still a little bulky, a little sporty for me. I mean, I own great sports watches from Rolex, Omega, and others, so why buy a Cartier sports watch? That's not what Cartier is to me, but the Drive is exactly what Cartier is to me. It's beautiful, it's refined, it's masculine, and its movement is made in-house! And the price? You're gonna like it. 1 OF 11 The Drive is aimed squarely at men, and men with taste. The Drive de Cartier (Cartier Drive) is a vintage autom
Determining year of production
Can you determine the year of production of a Breitling from the model and the serial numbers?
Youll never get the bezel colors you want again....
That is to say as long as Rolex produces the cerachrom bezel you will never be happy with the colors (that is to say if you want an exact representation of the 5 digit references). Everyone is complaining ohh! the new GMT still has the wrong color! It's cranberry not red . And so on and so on....Thats not entirely true. Rolex does nail the color for the Blue and the Red- PERFECTLY, but only for an instant when it's in the perfect light and the perfect angle. And never base your opinion on color on a Image you see on online even from Rolex. Those pictures never represent real world lighting. As opposed to the metal bezel in the 5 digits, which is for the most part has a much flatter finish, the cerachrom has glossier/polish finish. It will always bring in slight nuances of other color by means of a slight reflection, from other subtle shade colors that are in your environment. And that's why the finish will never ever produce the same exact color in every setting. This is
