The Value Proposition: Sexy Robot: The Grand Seiko Quartz SBGX061 With Caliber 9F
To a diehard mechanical watch fan, the idea that any quartz watch might be something you’d call a value proposition – much less a quartz watch costing thousands of dollars – might seem ridiculous, but if you’re of a certain turn of mind there’s a kind of integrity and purity to be found in Seiko’s Grand Seiko quartz watches you won’t get anywhere else. Grand Seiko mechanical watches, of course, are generally considered by serious watch lovers to be one of the best things to happen to watchmaking since Huygens stuck a spiral spring on a balance, and Seiko Spring Drive is a reminder of Arthur C. Clarke’s adage that any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic – but quartz? What’s there to love about a quartz watch? Inside The Manufacture: With Jaeger-LeCoultre In Switzerland, Pt. 1: The Very First Tourbillons Of J
The tourbillon hasn't exactly become ubiquitous, but there's an argument to be made that it may be, just a bit, a victim of its own success. To put it more exactly, the tourbillon may be a victim of the success of modern precision manufacturing methods, which have made it possible to produce tourbillon wristwatches that can be priced almost unbelievably inexpensively, relative to the prices the complication used to command. However, if there is one almost universally valid truism in mechanical horology nowadays, it's that it's not so much what you do as how you do it, and how Jaeger-LeCoultre did tourbillons – and continues to do them – is a microcosm of the evolution of the tourbillon, and the hopes we might have for its future. On last week's visit to the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture in Le Sentier, we got a chance to look deeper than usual into what the tourbillon meant, and could mean in years to come. 1 OF 6 Jaeger-LeCoultre's colle
Sizing of the 44mm - Opinions Please!
Hope to be purchasing a 44mm ROO within the next 18 months, and already trying to narrow it down to which model.Tried a few on a few months ago and took a fit picture to see how it looks. Please let me know your opinion on whether it is too big/small etc.
This is a cool watch...
...never owned one before, and being a Panerai guy, this watch is perfect. Love the 45mm size on the rubber strap and love the dial. I'm very impressed for sure.
