WatchTime’s October Print and iPad Editions Now Available!
WatchTime’s October issue is available now. In it, we test Omega’s new Planet Ocean chronograph and Breitling’s new Navitimer 01, both with new in-house chronograph movements. How do they measure up? Swiss and German retro-inspired chronographs go head to head: Zenith's El Primero New Vintage 1969 versus Glashtte Original's Senator Sixties. Which one comes out on top? We find out if Sinn's EZM 7, designed for professional firefighters, can take the heat.Norma Buchanan profiles the King of Vintage, Aurel Bacs of Christie's, the world's biggest watch auction house. The iPad edition includes an 8:30 audio clip of Bacs describing what it is like to be an auctioneer at the highest level, plus video from the auction room as a $2 million-plus Patek Philippe goes under the hammer. In Classical Revival, we explore more than 20 classically simple watches. We take an in-depth look at Montblanc's Tourbillon Bi-Cylindrique with two concentric, cylindrical hairsprings. In Tutima Goes
The History Of Dive Watches
There are many things we take for granted when speaking about modern timepieces, and one of those is water resistance. There are no "water proof" watches, as that implies water would not be able to enter them under any circumstances, so we use the term "water resistant." The history of water resistant watches really began in the 1920s, but it was not until later that the serious water resistant diving watch came into existence. Today dive watches are the most popular type of sport watch, not necessarily because people use them to dive, but because of their style, promise of durability, and utilitarian value.Regardless of whether one pays a few hundred or several thousand dollars for a watch, they rightfully expect reliability, accuracy, and comfort. Having said that, we are rarely reminded of just how much time it took wristwatches to transform from fragile pieces of art into workhorse instruments that can put up with most of the challenges we expose them to during our daily lives. Took this one out of the vault
unbelievable but this one sat in the bank vault for several monthsstill imo one of the best Patek ever made but the last several months I wore other watches.Untill yesterday I realized this beauty needed some wrist time :-)It is ofcourse personal choice but I looked at many high end chronographs in the past and not one Breguet, VC, Lange, or whatever even comes close
