Antiquorum to Auction Patek Philippe Calibre 89
On November 14 and 15 at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Geneva, Antiquorum will hold its 35th anniversary sale, and among the more than 300 timepieces to be offered is one that should make any horology aficionado breathe a bit faster… a Patek Philippe Calibre 89 from the Matsuda Collection. With 33 complications, this is the world’s most complicated timepiece. Patek created only 4 examples of the Calibre 89: one each in yellow, pink, and white gold, and one in platinum. This piece, lot 364, is in yellow gold. It was previously sold by Antiquorum on April 9, 1989 in the “Art of Patek Philippe” sale to commemorate the brand’s 150th anniversary. The presale estimate is 4.5 to 5 million Swiss francs. Previews will be held in Hong Kong November 6 & 7, and in Geneva November 12 to 15. For additional information about the sale, including high-resolution images, visit antiquorum. You may also click the image below to view a larger version.
Halda Race Pilot Watch Zenith Mechanical & Digital Movement
Swedish boutique watch brand Halda releases their second watch with the Race Pilot. Their first watch was the Halda Space Discovery, that was pricey, but interesting with its module system. The idea is that the watch case itself can be removed and you can include a digital device or a standard mechanical watch. On a bracelet, the Space Discovery is now complemented by the Racing Pilot which comes on a natural rubber strap, and offers some new things.Halda wanted to make this a racing world inspired watch so the "Racing" part of the name makes sense. The "Pilot" part eludes me, but given the features in the digital module, a pilot would find the piece useful enough. My biggest problem with the Halda concept is that you need a place to store the other module if you have both. What I think they should have done is made it so that the case itself can flip over, showing a mechanical movement on one side, and a digital display on the other. With a brand like Linde Werdelin, you can at least
DC's last AP AD to close
Since we kind of discussed this on a separate Rolex thread I thought we might as well make it more broadly available.Lenkersdorfer (owned by Liljenquist & Beckstead) in Tyson's Corner has lost their AP AD status. From what I can tell, they are not even sure why as they had a really good placement in the store and I think they did a decent amount of business. Nor did they provide heavy discounts that undermine the brand, but still. The closest AP AD is now Govberg in Philadelphia, PA.Somehow I doubt that AP will open up a boutique in the DC area, but who knows that they are up to?
Help sourcing a bracelet
Can you guys point me in the right direct... I'm looking for a alligator bracelet for a Bentley gt. tried from jomashop but they were on back order. Any good suppliers you have had a good experience with. Canada would be easiest but US would okay too
The definitive Speedmaster adjustable clasp thread
I have been trying to get an adjustable clasp for my Speedmaster (version with the screwed bracelet). My local Omega boutique was unbelievably helpful in getting this squared away for me. Here is what we found. There was another thread on here that indicated that the parts required are:Clasp - 117STZ001154End links - 118STZ000015 (quantity 2)We tried this configuration. The clasp is good, however the end links as specified above are from a Speedmaster Mk II, and they are not the correct shape. They fit, but they don't sit properly. The side profile of the Speedmaster link is an oval shape, whereas the side profile for the Mk II end links is a wedge that is very odd. As soon as they put them on, I knew it wasn't right. We then installed the 118ST1589 end links from the Seamaster line, and they fit perfect. So, in summary, you need quantity of 1 (part number 117STZ001154) and quantity of 2 (part number 118ST1589).The total cost of the 3 pieces was $213, and it makes a fantastic watch even
