CHOPARD Red Carpet Collection
The love affair between Chopard and the Cannes Festival has lasted almost twenty years and what an affair it's been! Their relationship has been encapsulated by the Palme d’Or award as we know it now and the glittering Red Carpet Collection which epitomises the glamour of the film world and red carpet flowing down the famous Cannes steps. This half-watch half-flower oozes the sophistication you'd expect of the pairing. Its petals glitter with brilliant-cut diamonds and pink sapphires (including 34 marquise-cut gems totalling 15.26 carats) which unfurl delicately like a creeper around the 30mm white gold case. The dial sparkles with 196 diamonds and two blue dauphine-shape hands track the hours and minutes. The self-winding mechanical movement brings the watch to life whilst a sapphire briolette and six diamonds shimmer on the crown. Price: 169,800 CHF. Sharmila Bertinchopard
Scott Carpenter has died.
I just learned that Scott Carpenter, one of the original Mercury astronauts, has died. I have always admired America's first space pioneers, of which Scott was among the very first group. He was the second to orbit the Earth. As I have posted before, earlier this year, I bought the commemorative Breitling Cosmonaute, a Navitimer similar to the one worn by Commander Carpenter during that mission. The watch has a 24 hour dial. The case back bears his name.It just so happened that I am wearing that watch today, the day of Commander Carpenter's death. I'm glad to wear it today, of all days, it helps me to pause and wish Commander Carpenter Godspeed as he begins his next journey.Thank you for your service, to America and to humankind, Commander. Rest in Peace.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1381438459.098688.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1381438488.983712.jpg
PP 5712/1A vs. PP 5726/1A
Really like both these models - in fact I'm torn between the 2 options. Would like to hear thoughts from those that maybe have owned both or at least considered both models.Pros and cons of each?General thoughts on why you would choose one model over the other. And if you would choose the 5726/1A, what dial choice - grey or white? Thanks in advance.
Swapping bracelets - good or bad idea?
I have a P serial 16570 with SELs and a T serial 16700 with hollow end links and an flip lock clasp. I was planning on getting an SEL bracelet with oyster lock for my GMT anyways so now that I've decided to sell the 16570 I am thinking of swapping the bracelets. Then I will have the GMT with the bracelet I want without having to look for one on the secondary market.1. Will I have an issue with the bracelet swap? I'm guessing no as long as I swap spring bars too, as they share the same case.2. The much bigger question is does this affect the value of both watches as neither is all original any longer? In which case, is it better to keep them stock? I'm really more concerned about the GMT since that's the one I'm keeping.3. Since I'm selling the polar, about how much of a monetary difference does this make? So I can price it appropriately.
Will we ever see a precious metal Sea-Dweller
Why not?, on the opposite side of the spectrum, many said we would never see a Sky-Dweller in anything but a precious metal, and then they come out with an all steel, and it is a big hit.I for one, would love to see a Sd43 in a precious metal, either white or yellow gold..Guess I can wait and see, only a few months away.
