Watch Insider’s Take: Will the New Smartwatches Conquer Our Wrists?
In this article from my blog, Watch-Insider, I look at the recent phenomenon of “smartwatches” released by technology companies and weigh in on whether these devices are destined to supplant the mechanical watch and conquer that valuable piece of real estate that is the wrists of watch wearers.Samsung?just presented its Galaxy Gear, Sony?has its SmartWatch, Pebble?sells an?E-Paper Watch and Apple will probably announce its iWatch very soon.Recently, I have been asked many times what I personally think of those “smartwatches.” Even a well-known European newspaper wanted to hear my opinion. In short, I am not sure if these watches are likely to become a mass phenomenon on our wrists. After all, years ago, Seiko presented a “television-watch” for the wrist that could receive dozens of programs, but the watch flopped. Why? The design was awful and who wanted to watch TV on his wrist? Samsung Galaxy GearToday, I see the same issues. Smartphones have a
Five Reasons The Cartier Tank Basculante Isnt 'The Other' Reverso
They came out 12 months apart, both with rectangular reversible cases, and both constructed by Spécialités Horlogères SA. But different fates awaited the Reverso and the Tank Basculante. One spawned hundreds of models and celebrated its 85th anniversary earlier this year. The other would be one of hundreds that make up a larger collection, and would seldom be seen again. But it would be wrong to compare these two models on their success. We got our hands on a 1990s model to explain why. 1. While we are quite certain the Basculante wouldn’t exist without Jaeger-LeCoultre, Cartier’s “titling” watch is inspired by one of its own designs – and one that pre-dates the Reverso by some margin. Born in the thick of World War I and christened after one of its most terrifying weapons, the Tank is one of
If I were to only keep one... (poll)
I plan on keeping both, but putting this poll in the AP section to see what happens... I have a feeling over on the Rolex side I might get a different result... 15202 or 116719BLROBoth modern takes on timeless icons. The pepsi trades at a little higher price point and is a precious metal with lots of tech.. the 15202 needs no introduction, no quickset date but my oh my it's gorgeous. Curious how this poll turns out.
New Royal Oak Offshore watch hands-on
visited a local AD today, tried the blue and black dials. Personally, I like the blue dial very much as it has more contrast with orange accents and white sub-dials. The black one also look nice but it's not as sharp or special as the blue one.I am personally picking the orange dial or 44mm white with ceramic bezel. What do you guys think?
Can you wear your Rolex to the gas station?
Might wearing your Rollie to the gas station, with all the vapors, cause damage to the movement and possibly case?
