Historic Celebrity Watches on the Block at Antiquorum’s April Auction
Antiquorum Auctioneers’ next Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces auction will be held April 10th in New York City. Among the many exceptional pieces offered for sale are several watches associated with celebrities from the worlds of sports and entertainment, including a rare Rolex owned by Charlie Chaplin and a Bulova owned by Joe DiMaggio.Fans of Hollywood’s silent film era will be drawn to one of the headliners of the sale, a left-handed Rolex once owned by the legendary “Little Tramp,” Charlie Chaplin. Not only is this timepiece an important piece of pop memorabilia due to its connection with Chaplin, one of the most iconic filmmakers and actors of all time; it is also significant because of its extreme rarity. One of the few left-handed models produced by Rolex during this period, it has a stainless steel case and a pristine enamel dial with a retailer signature by Asprey. Opinions and advice needed please
Those of you that have been kind enough to read my recent threads will know that I am in the process of reducing my collection of Rolex from 6 to 2 or 3....the idea being to use the proceeds (give or take) to enter the world of AP and PP.My purchasing has been speeded-up by the recent actions of the Swiss National Bank and the impending/already happening price increases.....and I am delighted to say that I have an AP 15400 arriving in the next few days (can't wait!)I am on the waiting list for a PP 5167 at the Patek salon in Geneva, which should arrive around April/May. However....Whenever I look at wrist shots of the 5167 I love it, and many TRFers over on the Patek forum write how wonderful it is. The few times I have tried it on in Geneva I have not been quite so sure. I have found it to be very light in weight and barely large enough for my tastes. I am also unsure about the numerals. I only wear sports watches (ie. dress watches are not an option) and the Nautilus simply doesn't d
Omega Speedmaster Movement Question
Can anyone tell me - is the Speedmaster Professional (3870.50.31) an in-house movement? Looking to add this to my collection, and just trying to learn a little more. Thanks!
ADs in Stuttgart
Was in Stuttgart over the Easter weekend, visited the 4 Rolex AD's as they are all a few minutes from each other.None of them have waiting lists and all watches are displayed in the window and get brought like that.Strangest experience for me was the 1st AD I went into, bearing in my mind my wife had her Lady DateJust28 with diamonds & I had my Hulk on, the sales person wouldn't even let me just walk around the shop after I asked about SS models in general! She pretty much said there's nothing else here that you'll be interested in and all our Rolexs are in the window , while blocking our path to the rest of the store .SS wise, the default SS selection of Air King, Explorer watches alongside the PM range.
