Patek Dominates Top Sellers at Christie’s Geneva Sale
Christie’s November 15 Geneva sale generated an impressive SFr. 21,572,700, or a little over $22 million. The sale included A Connoisseur's Vision Part III , which together with Parts I and II, represents the most important private Patek Philippe collection ever offered at auction, and the most expensive collection ever sold. Among the wristwatches sold in Geneva, Patek Philippe took the top spots. The star of this sale was lot 114, an exceptionally rare 18K pink-gold Patek Philippe ref. 2523 two-crown worldtime wristwatch with 24 hour indication and blue enamel dial. Manufactured in 1953, this piece was originally retailed in Milan in 1957. This is the 35.5mm “large version” of the reference, and only 14 examples are known to have come to auction. The selling price was $2,727,651.The number two position in the sale went to lot 234, an 18K pink gold Patek Philippe ref. 2499 perpetual calendar chronograph with moon phases, manufactured in 1957. This piece was consigne
Alpha Radiomir automatic
The first is an Alpha Radiomir with a Japanese movement Miyota, probably the best movement Alpha uses, like most of their other watches use enough unreliable Chinese movements with questionable accuracy. On the other hand their cases are very well made and a steal given the ridiculously low prices. This was the perfect mechanical watch if your budget is less than $100.
Luminescence
What does it take to get your Royal Oak's luminescence going in the dark? Does the luminescence get charged just from wearing the watch during the day? I'm particularly curious about the new 41MM watches 15400/26320, but I wouldn't be surprised if the answer's the same for the 39MMs.
Radiomir Firenze Acciaio Florence Boutique Edition
Traditionally I've always been a Luminor type of guy.Maybe its just the small child deep down somewhere inside of me but whatever it is I just love the interaction with the pull down lever and the oversized cog wheel winder every couple of days - oh, and it looks freakin' awesome too - bonus!Never really bothered with Radiomir's much, pretty much because of the reason above, just thought of them as sort of 'ok, but not for me thanks' kind of thing. That opinion changed quite dramatically recently when I stumbled across an internet pic of the Radiomir Firenze Acciaio PAM00672 - WOW! What an absolute beauty!!!Unfortunately, I have to accept that this piece will never sit in my humble watch box as its limited to 99 pieces and only available through the Florence boutique, the spiritual home of Panerai. The case work is hand engraved, so each one of the 99 pieces will be totally unique. The P3000 hand wound movement has been completely reworked and embellished with ornate designs to compliment
