40th Anniversary Speedy Info Request
My brother in law, a big fan of the space program, has always wanted a Speedy. I've been pushing him, of course, as any good brother in law WIS should. He texted me yesterday saying he's getting serious and was interested in the 40th Anniversary model.1- Is there only one 40th Anniversary model? There are so many Speedy references but the only 40th I've seen has a silver sub dial 9:00, comes with a nice wood presentation box w/ commemorative coin.2- Any idea of the going rate [either from AD, if still available or NIB gray market]?3- Best suggestion to locate one?Your thoughts and/ or comments welcome.Thanks in advance,dP

Time to buy non-rolex watch
Hello TRFI have been looking at Patek and AP for the last months and reading a lot here and where i could find inspiration. I really like wearing gold (rolex GMT) and i'm drawn in that direction again, no matter what its not going to be a daily driver. I'm not into advanced complications and travel with my SD4000. Have narroved it down to:5711 rose gold (aprox 50k USD)AP 15400 rose gold (aprox 35k USD)And perhaps5711 Steel (aprox 35k USD)The Price for the PP rose gold seems fine compared to the steel version. Previously Polished 5124g?
I have been looking at the 5124g for some time now. I absolutely love the watch; I think it's sensational. However, at $27.2k new, I think it's a bit much, especially considering what they go for pre-owned, and I have not found anyone willing to come off that price too much. However, a Patek AD I work with from time-to-time tells me they just got a pre-owned 5124g in from a collector. I asked why it wasn't on their website yet and the salesman said well, because it hasn't been serviced and polished yet. Most of my pre-owned knowledge comes from the world of Rolex, where polishing is very bad. I told him that if the watch was newer, and depending on condition, I would definitely want it unserviced and not polished. Am I just misinformed and this is standard protocol? This is a very reputable Patek AD. He gentleman also said that depending on if our watchmaker is allowed to work on it or not, it will go back to Patek in Manhattan, or stay here with our watchmaker.
