Historical Perspectives: Audemars Piguet And The Ultra Thin Automatic Tourbillon Caliber 2870 (AKA T
There are, let’s face it, not a whole lot of real firsts in watchmaking, which isn’t surprising when you think about its history. The lever escapement, which is found in basically every modern watch in one form or another, blew into town in 1750; the minute repeater had basically taken on its current form by the end of the 18th century; the first perpetual calendar watch is probably one made by Thomas Mudge, in 1764. The history of watchmaking is very much a history of small, hard-won incremental improvements that unfolded over a very long period of time, which is why watches like Audemars Piguet’s caliber 2870 automatic tourbillon – less well known for its reference number, 25643, than for the name of the movement, for reasons we’ll see shortly – continue to be interesting, and continue to be stories worth telling. Which RG?
Hi guys, I wanted to know what you think of these 2 models, the Nautilus 5711-1R, and the 15202OR?Both of them are gorgeous, but I am a real sucker for anything blue, and as much as the 5711 with the brown dial is a real stunner I think I may have a preference on this one for the AP, I understand that RG and brown are supposed to be the best combination, but RG and blue dial may have my preference. It's not a watch that I might be getting anytime soon, but it is on my radar. What would be your choice, considering if they were at the same price? The Patek is supposed to be a little more expensive than the AP but not by far. Here are 2 pics to help you decide which one you prefer. By the way on pics from the AP site it looks very very red but as I understand in real life it's much softer and rose instead of red as like shown on pics. Also the case back is probably more beautiful on the AP than the Patek…Thanks for your replies 5711_1R_001.pngjumbo RG.jpg
