Top Ten Technically Important Electronic Watches
Until the 1950s, the wristwatch world was powered by springs. It wasn't even until the 50s that automatic winding watches started to become popular, meaning that most watches were not only powered by springs but also one's ability to wind that spring manually. It was human-powered timekeeping. Winding one's watch was part of daily routine, as was adjusting it regularly to keep it accurate. But 1957 heralded change and the beginnings of a revolution that would fully materialize in the 1970s and 80s, and it all started with the futuristic-sounding, electric watch.Pre-quartz watch electric timekeeping technology was crude by today's standards, but rapid improvements helped make the battery-powered watch not only the dominate way people tell time today (don't ruin it for mechanical watch lovers by telling them), but also set the stage for wearable computers and a whole universe of watches that managed to do things no spring could ever hope to accomplish.1957:?The Electric WatchA horologica
Sharing Your Mind: RSS Blog Syndication For The Willing
People blog for a number of reasons, mostly to get their ideas out there. One takes the time and effort to share their thoughts and information in the hopes that they will attract an interested audience. The vast majority of blogs on the internet have a very limited audience. The reason for this is that only a few people are ever coming across their articles to begin with. Only a select number of blogs have large reader bases. One possibility for blog popularity is that a blogger becomes lucky enough to attract a wide audience due to provocative content, or due to effective marketing.? One of the most effective and free forms of internet marketing involves taking advantage of RSS (really simple syndication). In essence, RSS makes it possible to share blog postings on internet news feeds. If your blog postings are RSS accessible then interested individuals or websites can have RSS feeds that display your content as it becomes new. The effect of which is that people who aren't visiting yo
Historical Perspectives: The IWC Ceramic Fliegerchronograph Reference 3705, A Look Back At A Rare Mo
One of the rarest and most interesting IWC watches of the last few decades is one that a lot of newer IWC clients and fans might not even have heard of: the long out-of-production reference 3705, ceramic cased “Fliegerchronograph” or Pilot’s Chronograph. The Fliegerchronograph was first introduced by IWC in 1994 (a follow-on from an almost completely forgotten hybrid quartz-mechanical watch, the 36 mm “Pilot’s Watch Chronograph,” which debuted at the Dübendorf Airfield, near Zurich, all the way back in 1988). The ceramic cased "Fliegerchronograph Keramik" 3705 was introduced in the same year as the standard stainless steel version, reference 3706. We covered 3705 in a comparison with a modern ceramic IWC pilot's chrono almost four years ago, so we thought it might be time to take another look. 1 OF 7 3705 was not the first ceramic cased watch made by IWC. The company had experimented with zirconium oxide ceramic as ea

Ordered a 5168 but got bumped?
Hi everyone,New account for anonymity purposes.I ordered a 5168 the day it was announced from my local AD. (back in March)I placed the standard $5k deposit down for the watch and was guaranteed to the be the first to receive it. AD confirmed I was first in line. Received an email today stating that I was to be bumped because a high profile person wanted it instead. So I am next in line.Has this happened to anyone? Any ideas what I should do? Anything I can do about this?I passed on a 5711 to wait on this. Will be my first Patek and this happened...All help greatly appreciated. Thanks,
