So, the wife and I are shopping in Toronto on the weekend (actually looking for a new wallet for her - least I could do after getting a new watch and new strap for me....) and we come upon a large watch retailer (Royal de Versailles - HUGE selection of watches). I suggest we pop in for a few minutes to just have a look. I am actually looking for her, although she doesn't know it. She pretty much turns up her nose at all the ladies watches, so I give up and start looking for another for me...... I have expressed my dislike for the Royal Oak here before, but along with a bunch of those and some tourbillons, I see a very plain dress watch in the Audemars Piguet display area. I move closer to have a look and see that it must be a vintage piece, which I didn't think this place normally carries. My first Rolex - Datejust 41 - Complete U turn on the brand!
Very proud to say that I have my first Rolex :)It's been an odd journey to get me here. I spent years not caring for the brand at all, there wasn't a single piece that stuck out for me. The height of my collection has been around Omegas and Tags. Maybe once I became a little older and wiser, I started appreciated some models, specifically the Datejust 41 and BLNR. As time went on I started to like them even more, the beautiful subtleness of the DJ41, the detail and quality of the Oyster bracelet, the statement that is the bezel of the BLNR. It all just started to make sense why the brand is so highly regarded.I made the decision to go with the DJ41, Black, Smooth Bezel with Oyster. That configuration gives me exactly what I'm looking for in a watch at the moment. An all rounder, to be worn in and out of work, smart or casual. Anyway enough of my rambling! Here are some pics :)

Hi all,Do solid gold Rolex watches have solid gold base plates and platinum ones have platinum base plate? I am asking for 116508 Daytona in particular.Thanks so much,Tim
