Vacheron Constantin Quai de lIle Retrograde Annual Calendar Watch
One of my earliest "controversial" articles that made the watch industry raise its brow was on the first release of the Vacheron Constantin Quai de l'Ile watch collection from back in 2008. I more or less panned the concept and execution of the watch. But did so in a way that allowed even Vacheron Constantin to appreciate and respect my feedback. Last year I was told in confidence by them that the Qaui de l'Ile (QDI) was going to be redesigned, and I felt a moment of pride that my opinions are valuable to at least a few people. The original QDI suffered (in my opinion) on a few fronts. First was the eye straining design that make it hard to read. Second was the "passport" protections of the dial, and third was the fallacy of "customization." You can read all about my thoughts in the previous article. Now, slated for release in 2011, Vacheron Constantin will release a new version of the QDI. I still can't pronounce the name of the watch to save my life, but I like it a lot better. Retain
PP 5970J vs Rolex 16660 Matt COMEX
I posted this question on the Rolex vintage board as well. I have the opportunity to trade my 5970J for a Matt 16660 COMEX. Both watches are grails to me for different reasons. The COMEX is a super rare issued watch with a unique dial. The 5970 is IMHO one of the best PP's ever made. I wish i could have both but current conditions do not allow for that at the moment so I really have to choose. One is a watch you can wear often and only a select few would even know why its special and the other is one that you just don't wear eery often but typifies watchmaking at its finest. I appreciate the input and thanks much.
Looking at the entire range, I can't help but feel
That they just don't make them like they used to.IMHO among the last great Pateks:

Hi folks,My AD in Zurich has one on hold for me until April 10th. I wont be buying it as it is out of my league but they are happy to sometimes hold watches for me. Normally I ask them to do so for friends and they know I am not in the market myself for such fine pieces. The price is 256kChf before 8% vat refund.I thought I would give you all a heads up that there is one here in Switzerland. With current prices and exchange rates I wanted to share this opportunity.I am not selling it, have no financial benefits (or other benefits that I know of)I am not affiliated with any PP dealers in any wayIf anybody is interested I can forward your details. Fair warning: There is no guarantee of course that they will finally sell it to you, they do a vetting of new clients, asking about your collection/PP ownership etc, so I have no control over whether you will finally get it, but I could offer a chance to jump the lines.Regards,DP.S. Moderators: my intention is to share the opportunity, not reall
