Regatta Time: 5 Yachting Watches
British watch manufacturer Bremont made news last year as the new official timing partner and other brands sponsoring teams. In addition to sponsorships, some brands have developed timepieces specifically suited for competitive sailing and other nautical activities, often with some version of the all-important regatta countdown function. Here we run down five yachting and regatta watches and reveal why they’re ideal companions out on the waves.Corum has been making watches for yachtsmen since 1960, when it debuted the first Corum Admiral’s Cup watch, named after and inspired by the famous yacht race of the same name. The Admiral’s Cup has since grown to become an entire collection, one of Corum’s core pillars. Numerous variations on the Corum Admiral’s Cup have been introduced over the years, including, at Baselworld 2014, the Corum Admiral’s Cup AC-One 45 Tides. This watch’s movement, Caliber CO 277 which Corum spent three years working with
Close-Up: The Boutique-Exclusive Ulysse Nardin Blue Toro
The Ulysse Nardin Blue Toro watch a perpetual calendar with dual-time function powered by an in-house movement is the definition of “hard-to-get:” The watch (Ref. 326-01LE) is limited to 99 pieces and available exclusively in Ulysse Nardin boutiques. Scroll down for more info and photos. The Ulysse Nardin Blue Toro limited edition counts among its features a bezel and pushers made of ceramic and skeletonized hands designed to prevent easy reading of the dial’s calendar functions. There is also a sapphire exhibition caseback that shows off the movement, Caliber UN-32, which is COSC-certified as a chronometer, and its solid 22k-gold rotor. It is a rare example of a perpetual calendar that adjusts forward and backward in seconds over the quick corrector position of a single crown, even in the year 2100. The wearer can adjust Its hour hand instantly to a new local time using pushers (marked “+” and “-“) without taking the watch off the wrist or i
Pp5960-01g-001
My AD received several new pieces and one that really caught my eye is the 5960/01G. The blue dial, red hand accents along with the brown strap gave it a very sharp but casual look (which I like and looking for). Why isn't though that there is not much love for the 5960 in general? Is it the production run time, combination with the AC complication, price point (I am not overly concerned about resale value) or other options that may be available with a chrono complication? I am seriously debating whether to look into this further and adding it to accompany my AP chronos or selling one/both and just have the PP as my chrono complication in my collection. Any insight would be appreciated. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Thoughts on Panerai PAM051 vs Rolex Explorer II 16570?
Work as a health professional and have wanted a high end but beater watch I can wear while working but also as a summer/cottage/beater watch. The rest of my collection is all vintage Rolex and Omega and with the exception of having one 'no worries' daily driver watch, the rest of my intended future purchases are dress watches.Any thoughts on these two white dial with date watches... I intend to put either on a rubber strap for the majority of wear.I want something waterproof, that I can accidentally bump and scratch and not worry about too much.As the Explorer II reference I like is discontinued and there are no local Panerai dealers I don't have an opportunity to put either watch on my own wrist.Another consideration is I don't know how easy it is to get a Panerai serviced in Canada. For those in Canada, how does that go if you need a general service or a repair?
I may be in the minority, but the 36mm Day-date is perfect.
I have been a Rolex lover, admirer, and owner for over 25 years. While I like and appreciate the newest DD 41, There is something just perfect about the proportions of the original DD 36. I haven't owned one, but would like to own one someday. While out running last-minute Christmas errands, I saw one on the wrist of a fellow shopper and just thought to myself, Man that watch is what started my love affair all those years ago. To me, the DD 36Represents the pinnacle of Rolex. Merry Christmas.
