Never Meet Your Heroes: Finding a Heuer Carrera 2447S
They always say never meet your heroes'. The same often applies in Watchworld. That gorgeous IWC Portofino you thought was the pinnacle of refinement and gorgeousness turns out to look like an oversized Christmas chocolate coin on your wrist. But sometimes it works out.I've had an obsession with anything with an engine since I was old enough to peer under a car bonnet or look into a watch case. The two things have always sublimated into 1960s and 70s Heuers.Collecting vintage Heuers is only a slightly slower route to the poorhouse than vintage Ferraris, so I'd always avoided getting behind the wheel and just looked from afar. But covet? Oh yes. Plenty of coveting. It was always the Carrera 2447S. And an early one at that. The one with the eggshelly, very slightly shiny Singer dial, before the silvered starburst thing hit. The simplicity was what did it for me. None of the rail-crash of telemeter, tachy, range and sliderule dials that you so often see on pre-60s watches. No panda-dial f
Water resistance check
Hi AllRecently bought a PO which I'm delighted with! It has a co axial escapement meaning service times are lengthened to approx every 7/8 years. My question is regarding the seals, are they ok for this length of time or do they need checking every couple of years or so?and would this have to be sent back to Omega to check? As if yes this would defeat the object of increasing the service times. I'm using the watch for normal swimming ie not diving. Any ideas? Thanks
My new Patek Philippe split seconds chronograph!
That's right, boys and girls. I've got timepieces from Patek that allows for split seconds chronograph functionality - the ability to time two events simultaneously. No, it's not the 5004 or the 5204. I cannot afford either of those pieces. So, instead, I present my innovative split seconds chronograph - dual face watch, yellow gold and platinum, both with silver dials. For the first event I click the top pusher on the platinum, and for the second event I click the top pusher on the yellow gold. Voila!
Incoming Daytona Grail - Mini-review & Comparison
I'm a weak weak man my friends lol.However... I am so so SOOOO happy to announce that I received my first white gold Rolex today. I decided after much deliberation to trade my recently acquired 116655 +cash from me, towards the super hot Rolex White Gold Daytona 116519 on Oysterflex with Rhodium Dial and black sub dials. There was never a doubt that this was the watch for me. I fell in love from the first second it was released at Basel World. My only reservation was the price. When I acquired the RG YM I kind of knew it was a holdover until the price came down on this Daytona.Well Obviously I broke down and made a move. Here's why...1. I couldn't get a perfect fit with the YM. Despite the OF (oyster flex) being extremely comfortable, it was a little too snug in the loosest position. Yes, I tried every combo of OF strap and couldn't get the perfect fit. The main issue is lack of EZ Link in the clasp. Bummer. 2. Thanh Do (Takuya) had a pre-owned mint example 116519 (they haven'
