Ask any watchmaker to list the top ten or even top five watchmakers in history, and chances are that Abraham-Louis Breguet is on that?list. Breguet's contribution to watchmaking cannot be overstated. After all, he is the inventor of the tourbillon and he also popularized the Breguet-style numerals and hands. And this month, we have a real treat for you, as we get up close with, not one, but two pocket watches and a clock that were made by Breguet himself in the early 1800s.Since we are on the topic of antiques, we were also introduced to a special watch safe that is made using an antique medieval safe also dating to the 1800s. Leaving the realm of the antiquities, MB&F recently released a brand new Horological Machine watch - the HM6 Space Pirate - and we were there to check out Max Bsser's latest masterpiece. Another piece of high-end horology that we spent time with recently is Ulysses Nardin's Freak Cruiser. Even though the Freak was introduced some thirteen years ago, its desi
In-Depth: Hands-On With The Entire Patek Philippe 175th Anniversary Collection, Including The Grandmaster Chime
In October of 2014, Patek Philippe presented a collection of pieces that the world had been waiting 25 years to see. It was Patek who in 1989 launched the very concept of commemorative watches with its 150th anniversary collection and who today still garners more attention than anyone else in the world of haute horlogerie. We have already shown you the basics of what comprises the Patek 175 collection (see here, here, here, and here) but today we will go hands-on with all the pieces, as well as break down a bit more about what this collection may or may not mean long-term. Previous Commemorative Watches 1 OF 31 In 1989, Patek Philippe released a few limited edition pieces with an inscription on the case back. The most well known is the 3960, which you see above and below. This small time-only watch featured an officer's style case back and extended lugs reminiscent of an early-20th-century piece that resides in the Patek Philippe museum. 2 OF 31 A
Patek exhibition London
Firstly if anyone gets the chance to visit this event at the Saatchi gallery London go for it. I've just returned from spending a Couple of days in the capital and visited the exhibition on Saturday and Sunday. Amazing exhibition and top marks to Patek. So here's just a snippet of my weekend 🍻 The original Patek aviator watch Some beautiful enamel dials 😍Artist at work Hand engraving I had the pleasure of also chatting with one of the watchmakers based at the UK service centre who kindly let me handle his watch that he had made himself from scratch as part of his coursework if you should happen to pick up the grand master chime this is the box you will receive to compliment it . Sorry if the pics are a little jumbled guys but I've got that many and not much time to post so these a just a few Radom shots. Again if you get the chance to visit the exhibition go for it 🍻
5131r-001
Guys,I was wondering about 5131r comparing to other discountinued references in regards to second market prices which j and g were achieving? Would you think that r will hold that trend? I could not found any around for sale as it is a fresh reference which seems to be very rare, just asking from curiosity about your point of view from exclusivity angle side of it.I know there are certainly people on this forum who came across (or perhaps own) the R, I would love to know which pm version they prefer
AP 26331 vs Rolex 116509
With a steel sub as the only other piece in your collection which would you opt for? Or is the answer simply to wait for a possible in-house movement in 2018 for the AP or a ceramic bezel on the Daytona? This is not a personal dilemma I am just curious what everyone would go for :). Don't forget to state why you made your choice in the discussion !
