Lang & Heyne Caliber I Movement Done From Extinct Mammoth Ivory
I am glad to know that no living animal species was harmed in the creation of this watch. Dresden, Germany based high-end brand Lang & Heyne will produce a limited edition set of 25 Caliber I movements for its watches with bridges made from the tusks of extinct wooly mammoths. You don't see mammoth ivory used a lot. It is rare and hard to get being available only from well-preserved mammoths. All the ivory here for example was sourced from a find in Siberia, where the permafrost can preserve entire mammoth bodies in relatively good condition. Lang & Heyne acquired some ivory through a German dealer and investigated its properties in watch making.I firmly believe that using modern elephant ivory for anything these days is pure evil. Sell AP 15703 for PP 5167?
I have my AP 15703 for a good 5 or so years and i'm thinking of selling it to replace with a 5167. I think i'm not feeling the AP love anymore (i also sold my AP 15400 blue last year and AP ROO 26170ST last last year). Its been my trusted beater for so long so my hesitation is, will the 5167 be as good a daily watch as the 15703? Or should i just keep it for diversity? As per my other watches, i have a 5711 blue, Rolex Sub Hulk (birthyear of my son), a Pepsi , a BLNR Batman , and a Cartier Santos XL. Also, i've done some google search and can't find a side-by-side pic of both 15703 and 5167. I haven't seen a 5167 in the metal and would like to get an idea with its size and thickness compared to the 15703, so if anyone here has both, pics will be much appreciated. New Strap by . . . and question
Just received my new ammo strap from Daniel at Daluca (got the strap before I even ordered the watch. I will be calling DavidSW on Monday to order). I could not be more pleased with the strap. Daniel at Daluca was a complete pleasure to talk to on the phone, answering all of my newbie questions with great patience.I asked him to pick an early year leather with a great look. He chose a 64 Swiss Ammo pouch and made a beautiful strap. I ordered the Venetian cream with it, and now I have no idea what to do with it. I am confused by what I've read. In some places it says only use the cream if you want to make the strap look new for a long time. They also say don't use the cream if you want it to age naturally and develop a nice patina.Is this true?Please educate me on the proper way to care for this strap.Thanks!
