Ball Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster Orbital II Chronograph Watch
Ball?is no stranger to creating watches tied to modes of transportation. They're most commonly associated with the railroads, as that's where the company got its start over a hundred years ago. What people may not be as familiar with are their ties to aerospace. Ball has been partnered with Brian Binnie (the pilot of Virgin Galactic's SpaceshipOne) for some time now, and have developed features to help watches withstand the shocks of rockets firing. The first development they added to their latest watch, the Engineer Hydrocarbon Spacemaster Orbital II, is the Amortiser. This is a ring around the movement to protect it from shocks, as well as providing magnetism resistance. This system also includes a switch on the case back which will lock the rotor in place, preventing it from spinning. Basically with this, if you're going to go do something that you know will generate a lot of shocks (say, launching in a space ship or swinging a hammer) you can prevent the rotor from spinning wildly (
Ikepod Hourglass: Time For Art
I find it really ironic that an hourglass is a novel concept in the watch industry. When Marc Newson designed Ikepod released the Hourglass last year, I remember thinking "Wait. Is this the only high-end hourglass that you can get?" Yea, I think it is. It is as if the classic timing tool was a forgotten piece of history.Well, you might not have a lot of options in your quality hourglass buying needs, but the good news is that the Ikepod ones are pretty darn nice. Not only are they aesthetically pleasing, but you can actually time with them as well. According to Ikepod, the time ratings for both the large and small ones are quite accurate. You can now live your dream of looking your nemesis in the eye and stating, "You have until this hourglass runs out to bring me my money, or your family will die a slow and painful death While the hourglass runs out yet again."Last year, they released the larger of the two hourglasses while Ikepod has offered the smaller version this year. The large o

Question about Omega Seamaster Deville
I have an Omega Seamaster Deville from the mid 60's. I was wondering why it is called a Seamaster. I don't think it is very water resistint. Thanks
Alternative bands with Seamasters?
I'd like to see some pics of seamasters with aftermarket bands that people like. I'm pretty new to the watch thing, and I plan on getting a Seamaster GMT as my first automatic watch. The NATO bands seem to be popular. Any other suggestions for different bands? I'll work up to a Rolex in a few years. My conscience won't let me buy a Rolex until my house is payed off in a couple of years. I thought I might start with an Omega, and learn about Rolex over the next few years.david
