Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon
At SIHH last week Cartier launched the new Rotonde de Cartier Astrotourbillon with their new manual winding movement, Caliber 9451 MC, designed and created by Cartier watchmakers. This unusual movement is the product of 5 years of development at the Cartier Manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The Astrotourbillon’s carriage is driven by the third wheel of the gear train. The pinion of the escape wheel rotates around a fixed seconds-wheel (the fourth wheel of the gear train) in order to drive the escapement. The carriage has a special rotational axis, as it is positioned at the center of the movement. This requires a different gear-train design, from the two barrels of the movement through to the display of the minutes and hours. Another feature, responsible for the striking visual effect created by the movement, is that the balance staff and escape-wheel staff are not on the same rotational axis as the carriage. They are located to one side of the carriage, in linear alignment with
Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS Watch Finally Gets It Right
Garmin, maker of one of the best products coming out of America (design only, units are made abroad; sorry the US just isn't making too much good stuff these days), has attempted to make a few GPS watches in the past. The idea was pretty well taken; use GPS location technology to calculate things like running speed, distance traveled, etcCombine that with a heart rate monitor, and you have a great activity watch. The problem was that early models, such as the Garmin Forerunner 201 suffered from being impractical, too large, and god-awful ugly.Recently Engadget covered the upcoming release of the new Garmin Forerunner 405 GPS watch, that finally takes the Forerunner line of watches into something you might consider wearing outside the solitude nature. Looks are a combination of Suunto, Casio, and a little bit of Polar. Nothing to wear in a tuxedo, but certainly simple enough that you wont get the gawks people received for wearing the original Garmin Forerunner that looked like you were w
AP newbie questions
Hey guys,Sorry if these questions have already been asked but I'm new to AP with a growing interest. First of all, I'm a one watch guy, I have had my Yachtmaster for a while now and as of lately AP has caught my eye.First, I'm looking into 15202 and the 15400 with blue dials. Is this the best way to enter the AP world?Second, I know these are no Rolex, but how well do these refs handle an active lifestyle?Third, are the original AP rubber bands compatible with these? I like to throw the occasional rubber band to fly the watch under the radar.Any recommendations given my scenario? Thanks!Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Having withdrawals already
Missing my Speedy Pro terribly and it's been gone only 12 days. Getting it regulated, new crystal, half-link, and a new bezel. I sent it to Seattle. They received it on a Saturday, examined it on Sunday, wrote up an estimate on Monday and contacted me on Friday to authorize work. The Daytona is nice, but it's more like jewelry than tool. And - it's really hard to read at a glance. I DON'T miss having to wind it every day though.____________________________ TT OysterQuartz SS/Black U Daytona TT GMT II-C DD OysterQuartz Brietling Aero Omega Speedmaster Pro
Omega Speedmaster - scratches
I have just got a brand new Omega Speedmaster Pro and I was wondering if it's possible to change the hesalite crystal into the sapphire one somehow. I've had the watch for only 2 weeks and already got some nasty scratches.
