Bulgari Octo Watch
The legacy of Gerald Genta lives on now with even more Bulgari-ness. The original Gerald Genta Octo was a fascinating timepiece with a range of complicated movements. The "Octo" name referred to the eight-sided case, and unfortunately there are no tentacles related to this product. While certainly unique, I have to say that the Octo looks quite nice on the wrist. Bulgari continues with the now iconic case with a new watch simply called the Octo.Assuming the design of the case appeals to you, there is a lot to like about this product. First of all, it has an in-house made automatic movement called the Bulgari Caliber BVL 193. While not revolutionary, Bulgari hopes that it will help assert the product as unique and help the brand continue to position itself as a movement maker. To be honest, with some of the brand's assets from its acquisitions, they produce some of the most interesting high-end mechanical movements around. I believe the BVL 193 is a new movement in the Octo watch, and s
Hands-On: With The Patek Philippe 5204 Split-Seconds Chronographs With Perpetual Calendar (Live Pics, Specs, & Pricing)
Saying a new Patek Philippe reference is impressive is sort of redundant in itself. But the 5204 is really impressive. It's a new perpetual calendar with split-seconds chronograph for Patek, replacing the 5004 in the lineup, and offering a number of significant improvements. We got our hands on one back at Basel 2012 and have all the details. We'll start with the most basic differences. It's a huge jump, but 40mm is still a more than reasonable size and looks quite good here. 2 OF 17 Currently the 5204 is only being produced in platinum (5204p-001 being the full reference for this piece), and while the 5004p was most often seen with arabic numerals, the 5204p features applied gold baton markers with luminescent fills instead. The dial itself is opalescent 18k white gold and the hands are black oxidized gold with Super Luminova inl

GMT Bezel on an old Explorer II
I have an older model Rolex Explorer II that I want to put a black GMT bezel on. I've seen/heard it can be done from different sources on the net. But when I took my Explorer to a local watch shop, they told me my model explorer is one of only two years that this will not work on. I have the 16570. Anyone know if this is true or if the guy didn't know what he was doing? Or am I just wishful thinking? I'm kindof set on doing it if possible and disappointed if it can not be done with this model.
