Watches NEWS
Calibre de Cartier, Now on a Bracelet
Last year Cartier launches the Calibre de Cartier line powered by the brand’s in-house 1904-PS movement. The watch represented an important step for the brand. Despite the clearly sporty aesthetics, the Calibre de Cartier was available only on a strap. At SIHH 2011, a new and decidedly more sporting version debuted on a bracelet. The new models are available in stainless steel with black or silver dial, and in 18K rose gold and stainless steel with a silver dial. The bracelets feature wide polished center links and thinner brushed outer links with a deployant-style folding clasp. At 42mm x 10mm, the case dimensions have not changed. Water resistance is 30 meters. For more on this watch and the movement that powers it, click here.As we go to press, only approximate U.S. pricing is available: steel version $7000; steel and gold $10,950
Hong Kong Watch Shopping Wonderland
Watch overload. One of the?best days in watches. These are some of the phrases used to describe our afternoon watch shopping in Hong Kong. And these statements are all the more powerful coming from guys who look at and write about watches all day, not to mention that we had just come from Watches & Wonders 2015, where we got to play with and photograph all the Richemont Group brands' haute novelties. What, then, got us so excited about these dingy little watch stores with hand-written price tags? Come along as watches-dealer explores the cluttered streets and hidden watch stores of Hong Kong...You may have heard that Hong Kong is a watch shopping paradise, but you may have also heard that the deep discounts the city was once known for are now a thing of the past. These are both true in a way. You will not simply find a lot of new watches at unbelievable prices, but you will find a preowned watch selection like nowhere else. We easily spent 45 minutes just freaking out in front
A huge thanks to Vijay for the time and incredible images of Rolex .
The seller, Bob, comes by far with a great need of $66 100 and the experience of a lifetime already accomplished, only now, with a modest Timex attached to his wrist of content. A huge thanks to Vijay for the time and incredible images.
The myopiccoog, FremStar and vc_watches get-together
Pics from a quick lunch we just enjoyed together. Met these guys via TRF and after exchanging PMs we figured ah what the heck, we're in town all at the same time and we're free for lunch - let's meet up!Unfortunately, the pics from my camera aren't that good, with only one or two out of the three timepieces in focus or lit in a proper way. I've got to say I had a TON of fun speaking with my brothers-in-watches today, and seeing myopiccoog's 5270G and FremStar's Day-Date in the wild was nothing short of AWESOME.Till the next meet! Below are some of the pics I took (next post, because I forgot to click upload...)...
Summer/Casual watch decision
So I am looking to add another watch to the (very small) collection and am going back and forth on options and would welcome any opinions from the community! This will be to add to a GMT Master (worn in the office during the week) and a Royal Oak Chronograph stainless steel (worn for occasions/evening wear. The aim will be to upgrade this to a Rose Gold version in future but that's one for another day).I really want something to wear with jeans and a t-shirt on weekends, or around the swimming pool. I have a holiday coming up and fancy something new!Budget circa 12k GBP, and the options I am looking at are as follows;Patek Aquanaut 5167; + = it's a Patek! I've started to really hanker after a Patek and I like the 5167 over the 5711. Understated elegance. Value retention. Will go with anything. Rubber strap, ideal for it's purpose.- = I don't want to pay overs and if I wait around for one from an AD it'll be summer 2025 by the time it lands Royal Oak Offshore Diver;+ = I love the AP br
