Nomos Glash��tte, a watch brand very popular in its native Germany and now making a big push in America as well, takes justifiable pride in its flagship timepiece, the starkly designed �� and multiple design-award-winning �� Tangente watch, which applies Bauhaus design principles to its dial.Watch aficionados are likely familiar with the German watchmaking town of Glash��tte, and the two major luxury brands that hail from there, A. As we mentioned in our First Grail post earlier this week, F.P. Journe is celebrating a 30th anniversary, one that marks the occasion of his first watch (a pocket watch) having been completed. While 1983 is the starting point for the celebration, the journey to this first watch actually started five years earlier. The result is a new limited edition wristwatch called the Historical Anniversary Tourbillon timepiece.Working in a shop owned by his uncle, Journe worked nights and weekends to create his first masterpiece. Don't be afraid of the 15450...
I get the sense that many chaps avoid the 15450 because 37mm seems too small...in fact, I myself struggled to pull the trigger for this very reason.I'm glad I finally got over this mental barrier and went for it, it's the perfect size for my wrists which are 6.5 ish.I have a Daytona which is a nice size also, and a Sea Dweller which works well for when I want a more casual look and when I don't think a bulkier watch looks out of place. But the AP is just perfect for me, so much so that my dealer is now on the lookout for a blue dial model (I was originally going to swap the dial, but the silver is so nice that I've decided to double up instead).A nice watch only looks nice if it's worn by the right person, and size of watch vs size of wrist is a critical factor. When the 2014 new offshores were announced, I was feeling kinda blah about it... I thought it was pretty minimal enhancements and thought I would probably give it a miss. Like many, I was expecting something with a ceramic bezel in the redesigned 42mm, kinda like the special Doha edition (v sweet!!!!)Fast fwd to beginning of April when they were launched. I got to view and try each one on (except for the white diver and new 44's). Same feeling, not impressed. I only thought the new blue dial with orange hands looked kinda sharp and sporty but still didn't really do much for me... It reminded me of the ROC blue and orange that came out a few years back but nothing more. However, little did I know that my subconscious was thinking the opposite. Long story short, I went back to the AD this past Monday to have a look at the new navy again. Well the rest is history! (darn you subconscious).
