Why SIHH 2016 Watch Trade Show Grows To 24 Participating Brands Including Major Independent Watchmakers
"Carr des Horlogers" is going to be the new buzzword for those in the watch industry early in 2016, as the new iteration of the Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie (SIHH) makes a major move to incorporate nine fresh names into their roster of luxury watch makers. Up until now, SIHH has included mostly brands that exist under the aegis of The Richemont Group. Why did this happen? What does this mean for the watch industry, and is it good news for consumers? The politics and economics behind this situation are actually relatively complicated, but I am pleased with the Foundation de la Haute Horlogerie's ("FHH," a third-party entity set up mostly by Richemont to organize SIHH among other things) decision to bring nine small but important independent watch companies under their umbrella of exhibitors. Sock Drawer yields another AP Commoner
This is the first AP I bought. I read on line about an Arnold Schwarzenegger fundraiser auction held in New York to benefit inner city schools. Arnold contacted celebrities who picked their favorite AP model. AP customized each watch with an engraving of the celebrity's signature. I was thinking how cool it would have been to attend that event when I saw an on line ad for one of the watches. It was selected by the California singer Brian Wilson. I bought it. Then I got an email from Al Armstrong of Armstrong Rockwell asking to buy it from me. That's how I met Al. He was kind enough to send me CDs of Beach Boys albums to go with the watch!Jules Audemars chronograph that I like for its globular shape--sort of like a tiny gold pillow or pincushion. Surfs up!
Thoughts on this addition?
Here's the state of my collection today: I have a 5711 (blue dial of course) on hold at my AD. Thinking about adding it and selling off the Diver. 5711 too repetitive or the perfect addition? Thanks all!
BLNR outdated 2018 Basel?
Hi everyone,I just received my first Rolex as a gift this Christmas. BLNR. I love it but curious if it will lose significant value if Baselworld produces a new gmt blnr with newer movement? Thanks
Just curious: those that own Tudor, do you own Rolex too?
Well the title says it allReason why I want to know: Tudor once was a cheap man rolexToday I believe that changed. I suspect most Tudor owners have rolex(es) tooAnd if that case it's not a fact of being able to afford it or not
