Getting to Know Nomos: 6 Important Nomos Watches
Nomos watches are well-known in their native Germany, but not nearly as familiar to watch lovers in the U.S. as other Glashtte-based watch brands such as A. Lange & S?hne and Glashtte Original. Nomos watches, in fact, have their own distinctive look (the brand has won several international design awards) and are fairly reasonably priced despite the fact that they all have in-house movements made in the traditional Glashtte style. As the brand becomes more prominent in the U.S., we offer six Nomos watches that you should become familiar with.Nomos introduced its first diver-style watch, the Ahoi, in 2013. The Ahoi Atlantik Datum, launched the following year, carries the theme further with its lacquered “Atlantic blue” dial. The Ahoi Atlantik Datum contains the self-winding Nomos Zeta caliber, which powers the time, small seconds, and date display (“datum”). The watch’s case is 40 mm in diameter and features a sapphire exhibition caseback, fitted with
Bertolucci Bella Costa
Bertolucci updates the Bella Costa line for men and women with two models: Day-Date, and two time zones with big date. The stainless steel cases have off-center openings highlighted by asymmetrical bezels. Each model is available in 3 finishes: fine-brushed steel and black PVD, all black, and a ladies version featuring a bezel set with more than 60 diamonds. All models measure 41mm in diameter x 12.55 mm thick with domed sapphire crystals and 50 meter water resistance, and all models are powered by Rhonda Swiss quartz movements.Bella Costa two time zone with big date in steel and PVDThe two time zone model in all black, and the Day-Date in steel and black PVD
Grande Complication at NY boutique
I swung by the 57th St boutique today to pick up the 2012 catalog and had the unexpected opportunity to spend a little time with the Grande Complication! One of the technicians spent about 15 minutes taking me through its features. The one they have in the store has a beautiful rose gold plate arrangement beneath the sub-dials. Somehow I was so mesmerized I didn't think to snap some pictures . Apologies..The boutique staff really does justice to a brand that deserves to be represented by the best. There's always a thrill there..
The Panerai look......Why sometimes you can't see the forest through the trees.
I must confess, for years I couldn't see any appeal of the Panetai style. They looked too plain and that strange Luminor crown lock. I was wearing mainly Rolex and dive watches with turntable bezels or three dial chronographs. Fast forward 10 years and one day I saw the Panerai on the silver screen and thought that design was really functional looking and not too bad. In fact, that dial was so simply clean, almost like a minimalist painting. The less is more couldn't ring more true. It was like the first time when you understood what art could be. A few years went by and Rolex was releasing more busy dials with gratuitous wording every where they could put it. Breitling was even worse. They looked busy and cluttered up like a billboard. That's when I had a moment of clarity and remembered that Panerai on the silver screen. I actually dug out the old Eraser DVD to view the watch on my 70 flat screen. Pausing the watch, I studied the design and thought it was pure genius
SOTCFinally With Everything In One Place
As I've posted elsewhere, I finally got my Sub back after a month of it being with Rolex under a warranty claim. As such, I just now had a chance to put everything in front of a lens. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
