Blancpain 500 Fathoms Titanium Watch
Wow, I did not expect to see something so bold from Blancpain this year. This is a totally new route for their diving watches. At first I was torn about the look (didn't see to be much more than what Invicta could come up with), but then I began to appreciate the more subtle items. Retained are the sapphire crystal tops on the rotating bezel (such a nice feature by the way), and new are the hands, and the face. The hands are really designed for perfect legibility in both light and dark situations, not one or the other which is sometimes the fact. They also remind me of torpedoes. I think that is intentional. The wild looking lume on the face is also fucntion, and not just for show. Somehow, it seems to make the watch easy to read in the dark when you aren't used to simply using the hands.Blancpain opted to go with a light weight titanium case for this large 48mm wide watch. Added to the case is a helium escape valve, which might be useful for a handful of you out there. The original wa
Longio Tourbillon Watches: Chinese Watchmaking Pride
While many companies won't like me saying this, a less than announced fact is that many watch makers these days have some or most of their parts made in China (movements often included). Even many high-end watch makers likely have something in the construction of the watch that is of Chinese origin. One exception are the rare (and expensive) watches with the Seal of Geneva, meaning they are the most Swiss made, "Swiss Made" watches around. Is it a bad thing that watch parts are coming from China? Not necessarily. Like most places, China produces good and bad things. In a culture that celebrates speed and volume, as well as inexpensive manufacturing, the common promise has been something like "70% of the quality that you are used to, for 30% of the price." Most manufactures simply can't say no to that. Especially with many local (outside of China) production costs. This fact has resulted in a perception that Chinese goods are not as well made as those costing more. Well, you do get what
Audemars Piguet Royal Oak experiences?
For some reason, this watch has captured my imagination in an enduring way. When I first saw this model around 6-7 years ago, I thought it was ugly. Yet my tastes have turned around 100% to the point where now I really want one. But in the past, I have read a few comments from owners. What I am not sure about is how widespread and common their complaints are about AP. So here are some basic questions, let me know what you think!1. Royal Oak Bezel Scratches easily. By the way I have tried on a few used Royal Oaks and in most cases the bezel is fairly scratched up. Some have told me the steel on the bezel is softer than the rest of the case, mainly for aesthetic design reasons. Are you finding this a major distraction for you? Is the ease of scratching the bezel overemphasized? 2. Reliability. Some have told me that AP watches break down after 5 years or so, requiring extensive maintenance and repair, while others who have had several of their watches love them and tell me of their excel
New Planet Ocean and Father's Day Excursion!
Hello all, I have finally been able to get my eagerly anticipated Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean 2201.50. I got it Friday and it has exceeded every hope that I have had! Just after receiving it My family went on a Father's Day excursion to West Baden Springs and French Lick, which was a nice way to spend an afternoon, and I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a relaxing and economical getaway. Here are just a few observations about the watch so far:Accuracy: slightly less than +1 second/day!! Date-Change: Nearly instantaneous! It occurs entirely between 11:55pm and 12:00am!Lume: The lume is amazing...I have included some (unfortunately crappy) Lume pictures.Satisfaction: My satisfaction with this purchase is 100%!I would also like to thank JMSrolls for his advice!
