Interview With Watch Lover Om Malik Of GigaOM On Smartwatches And The Samsung Galaxy Gear
With the announcement of the new Samsung Galaxy Gear, we had a chance to talk a little bit with Om Malik, founder of GigaOm. Om is an accomplished (and award-winning) journalist, with much of his work focused on the tech industry. What many may not know is that he's also a watch guy and friend of watches-dealer, which makes him the perfect person to talk to about smartwatches. Let's see what Om has to say about the smartwatch segment in general, and more specifically the Samsung Galaxy Gear:watches-dealer (ABTW): Given your background and interests, you've spent time around the smartwatch segment - how do you feel the category is shaping up?Om Malik (OM): I think we are still in the early innings here. Despite all the hype and noise around it, none of the companies have come up with a killer, mass market product. I saw this when I visited my AD. First I did not pay attention, then visited again next day. Then came the research part. Looked at the usual places, read the reviews. and got one Excellent finish, keeps time accurately, feels nice on the wrist, perfect size for these kinds of vintagey watches. Surprisingly easy too read.The AD had both version (I wanted rose or yellow). Yellow is not overtaken and more old look. Also I find Sedna gold a little too pinkish.

Just chatting with my local AD and he says: Rolex has retired the ladies 26mm Datejust in favor of the new 28mm Datejust. I still have a handfull of the 26mm...brand new and 25% off... So is this worth a look? Ignore sales tax as there is a way to avoid. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
