Swatch Celebrates The 2010 Vancouver Olympics: Happy Games, Sporty Friends, & To The Top Watches
Fun watches for the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics from Swiss Swatch. These seasonal watches are pretty neat - for the occasion. Here is a mini review of the trio. Each has a function aside from being Olympics related, that is except the "Sporty Friends" watch, which has an image of the Vancouver Olympics cartoon mascots. Back to that in a moment. By the way, this month I am giving one of each of these watches away on Luxistwatches-dealer. Once a week until they are all handed out. To enter you can look for the giveaway posts here at my Luxist page. The three watches aren't a limited edition as far as I know, but are likely only part of a special production for this season and after that will end. So they are good thing to get if these winter Olympics games is special to you. Prices are quite reasonable at between $55 - $110 dollars each. Most mainstream of the three is the Swatch "To the Top" watch, that is 41mm wide in plastic (these are Swatches, they are most all in plastic). It has
Found: A Patek Philippe 3448 White Gold At Sotheby's New York (Or Is It A 3450 Yellow Gold?) C The Story Of The Convertible Perpetual Calendar
The reference 3448 has always been one of my favorite vintage references. There is something so refreshing about the razor sharps lugs (when the case hasn't been polished) and the simple dial layout with. So when I heard about a very special 3448 coming up at Sotheby's, I had to go see it in person. What you are about to see is something you have likely never encountered before – a Patek Philippe reference 3448 in white gold, with a later yellow-gold reference 3450 case as a back up. Say hello to a convertible Patek Philippe. 1 OF 5 This reference 3448 white gold is accompanied by an entirely different case, dial, hand-set, and crown C all in yellow gold. That's right, you read that correctly. This watch, coming up for auction at Sotheby's in New York tomorrow, was born a white-gold 3448 in 1966 and was purchased by the original owner in 1967. Then later in 1986, the owner decided that he would really like a yellow gold version, so he wrote to P
Incoming!!!!
Well, I did the unthinkable everyone... I traded in my beloved 44mm FC towards the 44mm Platinum! I can say I'm in love still with this piece, though I def miss my FC, I do NOT regret this. The heft is a nice change, and weighs a mere 245.4 grams. The brand new gator strap is pretty stiff, and I'm looking forward to it loosening up for me. I know about the comfort of the rubber strap from my FC, but the gator is a MUST to me. I do wish it was a Horn Back strap though! It was close to a 7 hr ride to the shop, but for this, I had to see it in person to be sure. Here are a few pix...
