SIHH 2015: Piaget Presents the World’s Thinnest Hand-Wound Chronograph (Updated with Live Photo and Price)
Piaget watches have long been renowned for their elegant thinness, and the brand has set numerous watch-world thinness records with its releases of recent years. The new Piaget Altiplano Chronograph, which debuted this week at SIHH 2015 sets another one, for world’s thinnest hand-wound flyback chronograph. The Piaget Altiplano Chronograph actually sets two new slimness records, both for the movement (just 4.65 mm thick) and the case (a wafer-like 8.24 mm). Piaget has created 25 in-house movements that it considers “ultra-thin,” with 14 of them holding world records in their category. This latest is Caliber 883P, based on Piaget’s 880P, the thinnest automatic movement on the market. Two years of development went into its creation, and the finished movement boasts unprecedented thinness in several key components, including the cannon-pinion (.12 mm), barrel staff (.115 mm), and chronograph gear finger (.06 mm). I know one is a chronograph, however they are near each other in price. I want a RO as my next piece but I don't want to settle for the 15400. Anyone's opinion and why would be appreciated.
Places in the UK to source an AP 15300?
I've previously owned a Royal Oak diver but it was quite a large, heavy watch for me as I'm around 3 stone wet through So I'm interested in a 15300. I don't mind used and I'm expecting this is the way to go as it's unlikely I'll find one new now from a store. Where are the go to places for AP for people on here? Thanks
Ademars Piguet movement in Chanel J12
I wonder if you AP experts know of the quality of the movement used in a Chanel J12 automatic. According to the Chanel brochure, AP movements are used in their watches. Thanks for any help.J. Alan
I still love Rolex and why I now love Omega, too . . .
I've owned four Rolex watches in my life (now 58 years old), but only one at a time. My current Rolex is my TT DJ 16013 which I bought new 23 years ago this month. After a visit to the RSC in November, it's like new again . . . it wasn't cheap, but it really is like new.The WIS guys and other members of this forum have succeeded in corrupting me and feeding my desire to own more nice Swiss watches. I had just about settled on a 36mm Explorer I when I suddenly discovered the Omega Railmaster. Based on my research, as well as a price comparison with the Explorer I, the Railmaster started looking really good. Then, on Christmas Eve, a fellow forum member posted an ad for a 6 month old 36.2mm Railmaster he had worn very little (it turned out to be basically perfect) with 2 1/2 years of warranty left for a really sweet price ($1,650.00). I jumped on it. Once I got it on my arm, I like it far better than the Explorer I.Then I got the urge for a GMT Master. I had always like the watch
