Inside The Manufacture: A Visit To Seiko Japan (Video)
While "watchmaking" and "Switzerland" are at times considered to be synonymous – at least by the general public – watch aficionados are astutely aware of the rich manufacturing heritage beyond the Swiss border, in places like Germany, Britain, and Japan. A couple of months back, a few members of the HODINKEE team had the opportunity to pay a comprehensive visit to the latter, where we were given access to two of Seiko's manufacturing facilities, as well as the Seiko Museum. In this, the latest installment of our "Inside the Manufacture" series, we take a look at the watchmakers and processes behind the broad range of Seiko offerings, including mechanical, quartz, Astron GPS Solar, and Spring Drive models. From Tokyo to the northern city of Morioka and back south to Shiojiri, we crisscrossed the island nation, covering some 500 miles by high-speed train over the course of a week. How blessed we are...
I wanted to do a thread on how we consider our Patek collection and how we feel about it.I consider myself extremely blessed and fortunate to be the owner of these 2 magnificent, in my opinion of course, Pateks which for many is the Rolls Royce of watches and I tend to agree.I never thought that I would have a watch which would cost more than 15K, and now I have these 2 great Pateks which are clearly my 2 favorite Pateks, all collection included, I prefer my 5712 to a 5970 for example, also I am lucky in the sense that I don't have to compromise on anything when I got my 2 Pateks as they are really the Pateks I prefer, the design, quality and finish is just perfect, you really feel that you have a superior quality time piece on your wrist.Every time I look at my Pateks, it just puts a smile on my face and I think to myself that life is good and I am a very lucky man, I own the 2 watches I prefer and will probably get the 3rd in RG, hence the 5167R which is also a beauty. Some of us are
New Blue Dial GMT BLRO price lower than previous model
The white gold GMT used to be more expensive than the white gold Sub, I guess due to the extra complication in the GMT function. Strangely I noticed today the new blue dial white gold GMT BLRO has dropped in price! Its now ?26950 compared to the white gold sub at ?27150Why have Rolex done this? I find a price reduction quite surprising coming from Rolex these days!
New to TRF - Planning first Rolex Purchase - GMT II LN - thoughts appreciated!
Hi All -Delighted to have joined the forum, I'm in the US and am planning out my first Rolex purchase - It will be for daily wear and I've fallen in love with the GMT Master II LN. I am currently in the process of sourcing one pre-owned. My watch dealer (who I trust explicitly and have purchased a number of non-Rolex watches) has a nice example with box and papers, its a G serial (2010) but the papers were stamped end-2012. It has not had a service. He is offering it at a fair price but has also told me that if I wait and another watch comes in post-2015 with the 5yr international warranty he would sell it to me for the same price. So my questions are:1. I'm assuming nothing has changed between 2010-present with this watch? 2. I'm in no rush, should I wait for a newer example to come up or just go for this one? The 5y Warranty is a consideration but more importantly if I decide to trade it because it doesn't agree with me as a daily wear watch, would I be better served value-wise with
