A platinum Patek Philippe ref. 3974 with three dials sold for a record $1.2 million on December 9 at Antiquorum’s 35th Anniversary year-end sale in New York. A Patek ref. 5101P Ten Days Tourbillon retailed by Tiffany & Co. brought $295,200, and a Patek ref. 3450 with rare display-back case achieved $270,000. A Rolex ref. 1665 Double-Red Sea Dweller owned by famous diver Patrice Chemin sold for an extraordinary $162,000 – six times the presale estimate. Overall the sale generated $9,237,600, translating to 85% sold by lot and 135% sold by value based on the low presale estimates. The auction room was filled to capacity and bids came in from around the world, including China, France, Italy, Germany, Martinique, The Middle East and the United States. Other top-selling lots included a Patek Philippe ref. 3970 in platinum that brought $168,000 and a Rolex ref. 6234 that achieved $182,400. Only Watch 2013 Auction Winners & Losers
Yesterday in Monaco, the Only Watch 2013 auction was held and the results are in. The event is meant to raise money for a medical charity, to which 100% of the proceeds go. Each of the watches submitted are totally unique and donated by the participating brands. People get very interested in the results, as it is not only a sign of the economy when it comes to Monaco's wealthy elite (and others), but also the interest people have in specific brands and models. The total yield of Only Watch 2013 was 5,066,000 Euros (most of which is thanks to a single watch). For 2013 there were some major winners and losers. All the lots sold of course, with some going over estimate, and some under estimate. Most of the lots however sold within the estimated price, and those aren't covered in this article. So let's take a look at the major winners and losers of the 2013 Only Watch auction. This article will only cover select lots, and for a full list of all the watches that were up for auction you can s

Wanted!! Information about SubC dial?
Hello everyone,I'm hoping to get some information about the writing on the dial of the newer' version of the Submariner if possible? (114060 and 116610)Whilst scrolling through some pictures I've noticed that there seems to be a slight spacing between 1000ft = 300m on some, and virtually no gap on others 1000ft=300m (I'll add some representative pictures below.)It appears to be on both the SubC and Date version so it doesn't seem to be confined to one or either model..With everything I've read on here about how precise and meticulous Rolex are when it comes to consistency this leads me to believe there must be for a reason for the difference?Does it denote a year of production or something similar?I'm genuinely intrigued and would really appreciate it if any one of you learned people could shed some light on this for me..Thank you in advance,AlexSent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Skydweller wears 42? I don't think so
For the first time tonight I was able to try on a full metal (white gold) Skydweller. (I'd like to try on a SS model, but that ain't happening soon.) I thought that it wore VERY similarly to my SubC, other than the Skydweller being a little thicker. Before trying it on, I thought that it might wear too big at 42mm. I don't think that anymore! Its a great size and very comfortable. I assume the SS model has the same dimensions as the PM model.By the way, the salesman was great! He was wearing a yellow gold GMT that he purchased nine years ago. We talked dial colors, the new movement, Basel, watch style......why can't all AD salesman be like that?
