Zenith Watches Rebalanced
1865 and 1,546.Those are, respectively, the founding year of Swiss watchmaker Zenith and the number of first-place chronometer competitions they've won. Almost unknown in the USA due to sharing a name with a consumer electronics company, Zenith is one of the small number of companies to have their own movements, or manufacture. In particular, their chronograph series 'El Primero' powered the Rolex Daytona from 1988 until 2000, as well as Tag Heuer Calibre 36, Panerai OP IV, Ulysse Nardin and others. They also have the 'Elite' movement, which is an in-house chronometer-grade timekeeper with date complication. Price for the pieces isn't bad actually.(They've also negotiated an exemption with Zenith Electronics, allowing them to market and sell in the USA.)Up until 2001, Zenith made classic Swiss-style watches: dressy, understated, usually less than 38mm, in-house movements with excellent finishes. In 2001, Thierry Nataf took over as CEO and, until early 2009, took the brand in an entirel
Tried on the Dark Side of the moon!!
Sorry, no pics...but it is on display at the Boutique in NYC - My impressions....From initial view behind the glass...it's fairly unassuming - almost plastic looking...After putting it on and watching the light catch it...it's quite amazing...Shiny as hell, and the brushed/polished combination is really striking. The Cordura was more comfortable than you'd think, and actually looked pretty good...the Dial was stunning...pure liquid metal type sheen (in fact it is ZrO2)But, it was very light - a minus for me, a plus for others...Overall,,,it is a killer piece...The price hadn't bothered me, but when you look around the boutique a little more...the Speedmaster professional moonwatchWith Aventurine dial blows it away!! (for 500$ less) - and a more beautiful lemania movement on display, and moonphase...Also, the redgold deville chrono blue dial was just so amazing, that no other watch came close...I admire the Darkside, and think it is a great timepiece...but I have to bow out from the wait
State of Play: Russ Crowe with speedy
Hi friendsThe new Russel Crowe movie, State of Play just came out in the Fiji Islands last Thursday. I saw it yesterday. Russel Crowe was wearing an anniversary moon watch with the gold sea horse logo on a leather strap in the movie. Lots of great shots of a great watch. It was a good movie also. Cheers
Anyone wear Nautilus every day?
Question for you one-watch Nautilus wearers, if there's any out there:Are there times you don't wear the Nautilus? Do you wear something else, or go wrist-commando?I've been debating getting a tool watch. Thoughts run from $400 Hamilton to $4,000 Sub. I just bought an AP Royal Oak moon phase, but that's hardly the tool watch I had in mind. And now that I'm wearing my Nautilus for the first time in the three days since I got the AP, I'm beginning to think I want Patek and nothing else. And believe me, that Royal Oak is a fabulous watch from every point of view. I'm not looking for advice here on which tool watch to get. Rather, I'm looking for thoughts on being a one watch (or one brand) guy if anyone out there can identify with that! As always, thanks in advance for responding to my inquiries (none of which have any bearing on the truly important things in life!) Just a hobby to enjoy when we can, right? Cheers!
AD has 116600
Hello and happy holidays watch nuts! A while back I posted about my Nebraska AD having a new model Daytona in stock. Once again my AD amazes me. They have a new (old stock) old model Seadweller 116600 for sale. Here is the best part! Ready? My AD has the watch pink tagged they have it discounted to $9,600 dollars because it is discontinued and less valuable!!If anyone would like to procure this, please feel free to PM me. I hate to see this opportunity go to waste. Unfortunately for me, my wife says enough is enough!
