Baselworld 2013 - Through the Eyes of a First-Timer
This past April/May I had the opportunity to attend Baselworld as part of my role as a Contributing Editor for watches-dealer. I have been writing about watches for a little over six years, and while that may not seem all that long to some of the field's more seasoned writers, it took that long to attend my first Baselworld. Like many, I grew up attending air and auto shows with my Dad and brothers, so when I first learned of Baselworld, I added it to a list of very far off goals as until recently writing about watches was a mere hobby. I had seen photos and read the reports that follow each year's show, but little could prepare me for the scale, the crowds in attendance, and the general watchnerdery of it all. In short, with the right pair of shoes, an empty wrist and a press pass, Baselworld is heaven for a watch lover. This year, aBlgotoWatch had a team attending the show, including veteran show goer Ariel, deputy Mark C, and yours truly. Incoming! A compliment to my Yachtmaster
I have been contemplating trading my Mint Condition Platinum bezel Blue dial Yachtmaster for a Black dial Rolex Daytona. The cost diff is a bit but finding the right watch has been a challenge. What have found has either been no trade situations or the price diff just to much.I decided on an alternative and boy am I happy with the result. Why have one watch when I can have 2I bought myself a beautiful Omega Speedmaster Broad Arrow that I couldn't be happier with!image.jpg
AR Coating on PO8500 - how durable is it?
Recently I saw a FS post that the seller had declared there are scratches on the AR coating when viewed from an angle.I wonder how durable/resilient is the AR outer coating on the PO?I have a habit of rinsing my watches with mild soap and water after wearing. To dry it, I clean it with an old face towel. Will this action be harmful to the AR coating? Thanks!
Squeak!
any suggestions on getting a (mild) squeak out of a bracelet? took it to (1) jeweler (Tourneau) who said it was hard to lube b/c of (something about the pins could fall out), and to just live with it. I found that, um, explination, hard to believe. and i am not about to just take wd-40 to it. then again, if it was good enough for NASA (and we know how famously NASA and Omega got along). it only happens when i turn the wrist, e.g. the watch is riding too high on the wrist and i shake my hand to get the watch to drop down where it is supposed to be.thanks kindly
Rolex magazine
I was going through my collection of Rolex magazines and found out I'm missing no. 2. Can anyone tell me what it is or post a picture of no. 2? I have no. 6 anyone knows what is the latest release?
