Mhle-Glashtte S.A.R. Rescue-Timer '150 Jahre DGzRS' Watch
The Mhle-Glashtte Special Edition S.A.R. Rescue-Timer 150 Jahre DGzRS is an easy watch to like. That's not to say its minimalist styling will charm everyone, but the fact that all the proceeds go to charity tugs at my heartstrings. Since 1865, the German Maritime Search and Rescue Service (DGzRS) have been keeping the seafarers and water sportsmen and women of the North and Baltic seas safe from harm. To celebrate the 150-year anniversary of the charity's foundation, Mhle-Glashtte have released this special edition variant of the S.A.R. Rescue-Timer, which has been used by the on-board crew for the last 13 years. In my experience, Mhle-Glashtte is a polarising brand. There is something unabashedly utilitarian about many of their wares that does not appeal to everyone. When I first saw photographs of the Mhle-Glashtte range, I was unimpressed by the finish and what I took to be generic styling. The blasted surface finishing that is often employed, humbles the overall mien of th
Swatch Jeremy Scott Melted Minutes Wrist Watch & Hypnotic Heart Pocket Watch
Swatch's new resident weirdo designer Jeremy Scott follows up his first collection for the watch brand with another less than a year later. I first discussed the Jeremy Scott collection of watches for Swatch here - focusing on the Lighting Flash Watch that I thought was pretty cool. There are five new ones now, arguably more strange than the first collection. For me the weirdest piece is one done in a sort of naked color tone with a burnt/melted dial. Mr. Scott - wearing strange hair?? as always- calls it the Melted Minutes watch. I envision it as art for art's sake and would see no reason or purpose to wear it. At best it looks a Swatch assembly line production accident. Even with Scott's ostentatiously unorthodox fashion sense, I don't see many outfits where this melted dial watch fits the bill at all. Passionate Swatch collector's might see things differently though.Probably the most interesting piece is not a wrist watch at all but the Swatch Jeremy Scott Hypnotic Heart pocket watch
Introducing The Montblanc Heritage Chronomtrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph, Available In Two Dial Variants
We recently introduced you to Montblanc's Heritage Chronométrie Quantième Annual Calendar, one of a number of recent releases that highlight the brand's capabilities in watchmaking. Not only is Montblanc making relatively affordable, complicated timepieces, but it is also digging into its Minerva roots and applying innovation to movements. For such innovation, look no further than the new Heritage Chronométrie ExoTourbillon Minute Chronograph. 2 OF 6 The 18k red-gold case of the Minute Chronograph is 44 mm wide. Yes, that’s definitely big, but there’s also quite a bit going on in this model. Finishing and decoration on the dial are top-notch, with faceted applied indexes and lanced hands in red gold. The top two-thirds of the dial are dedicated to traditional timekeeping, with a sub dial for the date positioned beneath the base of the hour and minute hands. Two ivory-grained, white-lacquered chronograph sub dials are positioned on
Hands-On: With The Blancpain Tribute To Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung (Live Pics)
Despite what you might assume, the Blancpain Fifty Fathoms can be considered the original modern dive watch. To pay homage to this classic, Blancpain released the Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung, a modern update keeping the original design features of the original Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung. Today we go hands-on with this fitting tribute. 2 OF 10 15.4mm-thick Case Quite literally, the biggest difference between the original and the tribute is size. Vintage Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lungs (like this one from the 1950s) are about 37mm, while the tribute is a substantial 45mm. And while at 15.4mm thick, the Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung is a hefty watch overall, the case is nicely contoured and wears nicely for a watch of its size. The dive style sail canvas bracelet helps a lot here. 3 OF 10 The Tribute To Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung's Decorated Movement Size aside, the Tribute to Fifty Fathoms Aqua Lung has a lot of the design features of the original
Datejust 36mm blue dial question
I am planning to maybe add a 36mm DJ, white gold bezel, jubilee to my collection and this time with a blue dial. I have seen pictures of this watch with different types of blue dials - some seem to have a sunburst efect dial and some seem to be plain blue, without the sunburst efect. Is this the case, or are all the blue dials the same? Thanks in advance for help! :)
