Million Dollar Club 2012: Watch Advertising at All-Time High
In an exclusive report in the upcoming May-June issue of WatchTime, we reveal which watch brands are spending the most on advertising in 2012, a record year for watch-company ad spending, and we provide a complete list of the 60 brands that spent more than $1 million on ads. Watch brands spent more on U.S. advertising in 2012 than ever before. Total spending reached $399.74 million, up 9.3 percent over 2011, according to Kantar Media, which tracks advertising across all media channels. Sixty watch brands spent more than $1 million on advertising, up from 54 brands in 2011. To make the list of the Top 25, a firm had to spend over $3.63 million compared to $3.43 million a year earlier.Ad spending was up for the third consecutive year, after falling sharply in the recession year of 2009. The 2012 total surpassed the previous record of $388 million set in 2007, and was a sign of a continuing recovery in the U.S. watch market. The big spender last year, as usual, was Rolex, with a U.S. ad bu

Speedmaster Pro - Sulking
This is one of the things I like about mechanical watches, they have character. I have to say upfront that I am not too hung up about accuracy, if my watches are within a 10-15 seconds a day I am ok. So now I can say my speedmaster pro is an attention seeker. I wind it up, strap it to my wrist and face the day. Check its accuracy later and hell, its within a second a day. I kept it on for another day and it was still within a second. Then I saw my seadweller staring longingly at me so I took the omega off and wore the seadweller. Checked the omega the next day (I did wind it again) and it had lost 5 seconds! It wants to be worn or it sulks lol. Just kidding, I suspect wearing a mechanical watch vs. winding and leaving it on the table will result in different accuracy.
Rolex "Museum" in Vegas
I was checking out the Rolex Museum in the back of the Wynn (Watches of Sz) boutique. I noticed that two of the watches were reversed, meaning that the written display did not match the watch. So I kindly requested that they switch them. The first oyster was switched with the first DJ. If anyone is there, let me know if they corrected the error (not sure why I need to know this, but I do).
Odds of replacement
What are the odds of someone placing an insurance claim for a high demand reference and the insurance actually being able to replace the watch? Like a BLNR, Hulk or DaytonaC. Would they opt to pay out versus source a new one?I always wondered that.Thanks.Sent from my SM-G955U using Tapatalk
