Vacheron Constantin Creates Special Quai de lIle to Benefit Charity
Following the Only Watch 2009 auction, Vacheron Constantin announced that it is creating a special series of 100 numbered Quai de l'Ile timepieces that will enable the company to donate an additional SFr.100,000 to the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy. The limited edition pieces will feature cases made from tantalum and in palladium, and the watches will be equipped with mechanical self-winding caliber 2460 movements bearing the Hallmark of Geneva. Each piece will be numbered and engraved on the back, and they will be available at 100 Vacheron Constantin points of sale around the world. About this special series, Juan-Carlos Torres, CEO of Vacheron Constantin, said: Driven by a desire to transcend the gift we had made to the auction, we simply asked ourselves how we could open up a new and more lasting channel of funding on behalf of the Monaco Association against Muscular Dystrophy over which Luc Pettavino presides in such a charismatic manner. We have therefore decided t
Introducing: The Cartier Ronde "Croisiere" Cruise Collection (Live Pics, Pricing)
Well, though it’s still just barely mid-August, the days are already getting shorter, and the first back-to-school sale catalogues are in the mail. A lot of us are spending the last couple of golden (we hope) weeks of summer getting all the relaxation crammed in that we can before heading back to our various versions of work-related reality. So, since summer’s lease hath all too short a date and that date is pretty much upon us, why the heck is Cartier launching a “cruise collection” of men’s watches now? 1 OF 6 Well, to understand the timing, you have to know what a cruise collection is. In the style world, a cruise collection (the word “croisiere” is French for “cruise”) is also sometimes known as a resort collection and the idea here is that a lot of folks don’t just head to the beach during the dog days of August – historically, folks with the means to do so often made a point of heading south for the
Speedmaster Bezel Replacement
I have an early 90's Speedmaster 3811.50.50 reduced/auto with the silver tach bezel. Is there a black replacement bezel for this model, and if so, what would the model number be? I looked on the Otto Frei site, but did not see one.thanks
5-digit case profile white gold Submariner (16619)
I added a poll option so all the purists can vent their rage...I can't stand the super case profile on the new Subs, GMTs, etc. I've tried to like them and have owned them in the past - including an 116619. I sold them all and now own only a 16613.I have the opportunity to have an 116619 customized to exactly match the 5-digit case profile. I don't expect to ever sell it if I do this, but never is a long time. I know some purists will call this a franken. I know some people will say I'd never touch it. The market to sell will be smaller. That said, I'm trying to get an idea of the approximate real cost of doing this to decide if it's worth it to me. Real cost = cost of customization + depreciation hit. Thanks for helping!
Are there/were there Rolex models with brushed lugs + jubilee bracelet?
Every modern Rolex I can think of that comes with a jubilee bracelet has polished lugs. Is that how it's always been? Or did older 5-digit DJs, as an example, have the tops of the lugs brushed and also a jubilee bracelet (with alternating brushed/polished links)?I've seen pics of members' BLNRs with super jubilee bracelet, so it seems like brushed lugs and jubilee works. Just wanting to get more opinions.
