Hands-On: The Ultra-Rare Panerai Bronze 1000 Meter Prototype, Coming Up At Christie's New York This Week
One of the most unusual watches we’ve seen in a while is this bronze prototype – rated to 1000 meters’ water resistance – made by Officine Panerai in the mid-1980s, as part of a project to develop dive watches for the Diver Corps of the Italian Navy; the watch is going up for auction this week from Christie’s. It’s a pretty rare bird, but for our money what really takes it to the next level is that it’s a fantastic example of how utilitarian design can, when pushed far enough, transcend itself and produce something really exciting aesthetically, which is fundamentally what the appeal of Panerai is all about. 1 OF 4 Before getting into aesthetics, just from the standpoint of objective rarity and historical importance, it’s a pretty remarkable piece and would probably attract a great deal of attention. Patek Enablers, Some Help/Info Needed !!
To my TRF fam, and once Ap enablers not so long ago... Time to bring it to Patek First and foremost, you guy's are such BAD influences Ive tried recently the 5980, and LOVE IT! Just worried I won't wear it too much because of it's sheer prettiness and somehow I won't want to wear it casually and sporty? I know it's a sports watch, but it felt kind of delicate, not sure why!Also, I always loved the 5712, they are getting the last one in the company for me, with the blue/slate dial on bracelet to look at. Price is much more appealing to me, love the power reserve and moon phase, dial overall.. I think 51k is A LOT for a steel chrono, thoughts? Way overpriced? Last question, I guess i'll see for myself, the 5980 fit beautifully but I wouldn't want to go smaller... 5712 people say wears smaller? How much so? Which would you pick and why... Reliability?
