My First Grail Watch: Jerome Mage
Welcome back to an original watches-dealer feature, "My First Grail Watch." In this series, we ask prominent people in the watch industry about the first timepiece that they lusted after.watches-dealer (ABTW): Who are you and what is your relationship to the watch industry?Jerome Mage (JM): My name is Jerome Mage, and I am the co-founder and creative director for MARCH LA.B. We are an independent watchmaker with offices in Biarritz and LA (Alain Marhic, the founder of MARCH LA.B, is working from France while I am in Los Angeles).ABTW: What was your first grail watch?JM: My first grail watch was definitely the Jaeger le Coultre Reverso, a watch that represents elegance, class, and intelligence. It has a real beauty - a perfect balance between purity of lines and subtle line engraving that is eponymous of the art deco period. I used to browse the windows of stores of jewelers in Paris when I was 17, 18 years old. Daydreaming of one day owning this watch. As of late, I became obsessed with
Hublot Big Bang Minute Repeater Tourbillon Watch
This very cool watch from Hublot has a movement made by Mathias Buttet's department. Buttet runs the Hublot Confrerie Horlogere (formerly of BNB Concept) - I discussed this more here. The gorgeous movement is incredibly traditional in style compared to the forward looking designs of Hublot watches. The piece is called the Big Bang Minute Repeater Tourbillon and is limited to just 10 pieces. Functions include the time, a flying tourbillon, and a great sounding minute repeater. Listen to it in the video (which is of the movement that is in the watch).Read more about the Hublot Big Bang Minute Repeater Tourbillon in my article at Haute Living here.
Platinum or Rose?
Hi all,So my adventure continues. As I was advised early on, I am trying to get the nicest example of a PP that I really like (not one that I only think is going to hold the most value...though it would still be nice since I know the day to sell will come). Problem is that I'm going to have a very difficult time deciding between the 5055, 5035, & 5024 (i know the 5024 is an odd third choice here but I was always a fan of a modern looking gondolo from PP). What I'd like your opinions on, since my two favorite tones are silver (so the G or P) and the rose gold, is which do you think is a smarter purchase? I ask this because I'm starting to see some P examples in the same price range as G or R.
Rolex Authentication
Good afternoon everyone, I'm new to the rolex forums and am in the process of purchasing a new model Explorer 2. Would anyone have or know a business in the Austin Texas area that could authenticate this watch for me?
